By 1959 In January, LaMont Blackham Sr. and his son LaMont Jr., were named Outstanding Poultry Farmers of Utah and John LaMont was also named a national winner. The younger Blackham was presented a $500 check for being the outstanding junior turkey farmer in the nation. John Ramsay also took national honors when he attended the National Federation Turkey Congress in Des Moines, la, and his Utah Grand Champion hen placed fourth in the nation. Moroni held its centennial celebration July 3 and 4. A centennial book was published. Other 1959 events were the joining of Moroni residents with Mt. Pleasant in passing a $600,000 bond issue for elementary schools; Leonard Tidwell, was named King Cowboy; Laurence Kelson received the Sears Roebuck Foundation Distinguished Service Award for outstanding work as a vocational teacher; and a new bishopric was called in the West Ward with Elden Leonard Westenskow, bishop, Eliason and John Guymon, counselors. ZP Call 436-823- 5 Jensens Buy way Jensens store has been in the family since St. Patricks Day on March 17, 1915 when it was opened by Vernile Jensen. The first store was located where the Utah Power and Light building now stands, Jensen moved his store in 1940 to its present location. His son, Bryce, succedded him followed by Dean and Carma Jensen in 1958. For the past 26 years, Dean and Carma have kept the business going hiring mostly family members. Floyd Jensen, Deans brother, has worked in the business for 36 years cutting meat. The Jensen children, Allen, Joan, Evan and Michael have all worked in the store since they were old enough to operate the cash register.
