Show Funeral Services Held For Moroni Pioneer Impressive funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Moroni Mo-roni West ward chapel for Mrs. Janet Syme Monson who died at her home Thursday morning of an accute heart attack following influenza. Bishop Ephraim Nelson was in charge. The choir sang "Abide With Me" and "Sometime We'll Understand" with Mrs. Lawrence Larsen as soloist. so-loist. The prayers were by Heber Anderson and John I. Morley. Mrs. Artimesia Anderson and Jabes Faux paid tribute to the memory of the life of Mrs. Monson. Other speakers were Soren C. Nielsen, Franklin Hansen and Bishop Nelson. Nel-son. ' Special music included a vocal solo, "O My Father," Mrs. Ernest Anderson; solo, "My Faith In Thee," Mrs. Elden Westenscow and a violin solo, "A Perfect Day'1 by Sharp Draper. Mrs. Monsen, who was 78 years old, was the widow of Mons Monson. Mon-son. She was born in Myphsborn, Illinois in 1854, a daughter of John and Barbara Wyley Syme. She came to Moroni with her parents par-ents in 1861. She went with them to Monroe where they lived for four years during the Black Hawk Tndian War. She has been a resident resi-dent of Moroni ever since. She married Mons Monson in the old Endowment house in Salt Lake Cifv. November B. 1871. Mrs. Monson was a very faithful faith-ful Latter Day Saint and was especially es-pecially active in the Relief Society, So-ciety, serving as treasurer for move than 20 years. She was the oldest Relief Society teacher in Moroni, serving as a teacher for over fifty years. She was active up to the time of her death. Surviving are four children: Mrs. Annie Christensen, Mrs. Ophelia Rhodes, Gilbert and Bent Monson of Moroni; one brother, James Syme, 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren also of Moroni. |
