Show Mrs. Nielsen's 97th Birthday Is Observed A 97-year-old Mt. Pleasant woman marked her ' birthday Wednesday by greeting rela-lives rela-lives and close friends at hei home on Third - South Fourth Wesc street. She is Mrs. Johanne Mari. Jensen Nielsen, mother of Mayoi S. M. Nielsen and the oldest living resident of Mt. Pleasant This is the second time within the month that Mrs. Nielsen has been the center of - community interest. Sunday, May 8, she was honored by Mother's Day ceremonies conducted at the South ward. Mrs. Nielsen still takes an active interest In the life about her, although she rarely leaves her comfortable home. She is a radio listener and talks to friends and relatives by telephone. tele-phone. A convert to the L. D. S. church, Mrs. Nielsen was born in Knasborg, Jutland, Denmark, May 25, 1852, and came to Utah in 1895. She married Soren Christian Nielsen at Vesborg in 1882. He died in 1939. Mrs. Nielsen is the mother of four children all of whom are living. They are Mrs. Elsie Sidwell of Nephi; Carl Nielsen, Fairview; S. M. Nielsen, the mayor of Mt, Pleasant, and Mrs. A. V. Borg of Salt Lake city. She has 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. At the USAC Convocation Phi Kappa Phi awards were presented pre-sented by Dr. Wallace J. Vick-ers Vick-ers to the highest ten per cent of graduates of each school based upon scholarship. Among those receiving such awards were Mr. and Mrs. Leo L. Mower of Fountain Green. Mr. Mower graduated from the school of engineering and technology tech-nology and Mrs. Mower from the school of education. Mr. Mower is a veteran of World War II, spending 5 years as a pilot and acquired the rating of Lieutenant. They are the parents of two sons. |
