Tribal bingo goes on over Idaho objections EXPERIENCE Fort Hall, Idaho (AP) — Highstakes bingo continued for another weekend on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation, although the first round of games last week did not pay for the game’s start-up costs, officials said. More than 1,000 people paid $25 each during the Shoshone-Bannock Indian Tribes’ first games last weekend. They have a chance to make up to $2,000 per game. State officials oppose bingo on the reservation, but the federal government has upheld the Sho-Bans’ right to conduct it. Nathan Small of the Fort Hall Business Council said the tribes were not invited when Gov. Cecil Andrus spoke with Interior Secretary Manuel Lujan about bingo earlier in the week. Suggested at the meeting was a **friendly suit’’ between the state and _ tribes to settle the issue for good. Although revenue figures were not available, Small said the first weekend of games did not generate the $25,000 needed for equipment and wales for some 40 workers. ‘“We might have put a dent in startup costs, but we have a lot of expenses,’’ he said.
