in pleasant grove utah on june 1 ibbs and ed educated in the grade and high schools of that community lie he then entered the brigham young university and received his bachelors degree from that institution in after serving for two years as instructor tor in mathematics and physics at BYU he entered columbia university with a teaching fellowship ind and began studying for his doctor s degree he received his phd in in physics from that institution in 1930 before completing his studies at columbia dr joined the technical staff of the bell telephone laboratories in new york city where he remained for eight years while on the bell staff he also lectured at the brooklyn public polytechnic institute in 1933 pres became director of research for the kendall mills at charlotte N C a position he held until 1939 in that year he went to ohio state as director of the research ye foundation professor of industrial research and field director of the engineering experiment station during the war years the foundation conducted many important research projects for the government and for industry including vital research in the development of the atomic bomb the board of regents
