Show NORTHERN UTAH PRESS association ELECTS OFFICERS an organization of the northern division of the state press association comprising newspapermen of the counties north of salt lake was effected at brigham city last sunday officers were elected as follows james waton tremonton Tre monton menton chairman jesse earl logan vice chairman S D perry morgan W J marshall randolph gunnar logan hector evans layton C A epperson 0 ogden den and W R holmes brigham city directors the secretary will be selected by the chairman A resolution protesting the election ot of any person holding office tor for profit or trust to bembe membership iship in the state law was passed the resolution declared that in recent previous sessions of the legislature numerous members of school boards school officials and councilmen of cities and towns and others occupying positions of trust under the laws ot of the s tate state of utah were elected and served as members of the legislature contrary to the state constitution the resolution was in part as follows whereas the constitution of the state of utah article six section six provides that no person holding any public office of profit or trust under authority ot of the united states or of the state shall be a member of the legislature provided that appointments in the state mi militia and the offices of notary public justice of the peace united states commissioner and postmaster of the fourth class shall not within the meaning of this sp section r tion be considered offices of profit or trust now therefore be it resolved that the executive committee serve notice upon the political parties of the state of utah that the utah state press association will protest issuance ot of any certificate of election the administering of the oaths of office or the seating of any legislator who is ineligible e as set forth by article six section six of the constitution of the state of utah A B gibson of nephi president of the state association presided matters pertaining to laws and legislation taxation and the proposed constitutional amendments were discussed speakers at the meeting were howard howaad jarvis vice president clyde epperson of ogden W WJ P epperson of kaysville Kays ville mrs alce grace A cooper ot of salt lake secretary and others |
