Outreach classes to be held in Fillmore A registrationadvisement meeting will be held January 4 in Fill nore for Millard County residents interested in obtaining a teaching degree through the Southern Utah State College Outreach Program in Teacher Carol Teresa Ford Wedding Bells to ring Mr. and Mrs Gerald R. Ford would like to request the honor of your presence at the wedding of their daughter, Carol Teresa Ford, to James Edward Hamilton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Alvis and the late Mr. George W. Hamilton, on December 23, If Our Town Fillmore GL By Stella Day In 1921 the National officers of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers came to Fillmore and organized the County Company of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. My mother, Hannah Hanson Huntsman, was the First President and I was appointed Chorister for the County Company. I have served in many capactities in the County Company since then, but as Historian sincel9SI. Fillmores Centennial Year was 1951 and the Daughters of the Pioneers decided to write a history of Millard County. We joined with the Deseret County Company to write the history, since Millard County had two county organizations, and the printing of the history would be very expensive. Sebrina Ekins was appointed to write the history of West Millard County and I was appointed historian to write the history of East Millard County. Little did either of us dream of what we were getting into in order to Finish this job. When we consulted Mr. Conover, owner of Art City Publishing Company, about publishing our history book, we were shocked at the thousands of dollars we would have to raise in order to get this history printed. Sebrina and I said we would have nothing to do with raising money for the book, as we would be busy night and day, collecting the information for the book. Little did we know the long struggle we would have doing the research work. Where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise, certainly applies to the printing of Milestones of Millard, as we were over a year gathering the material for the book, and the more we gathered, the more we became interested. For instance, I ran on to a quotation from Anson Calls diary, and immediately I wanted to read this diary. I inquired where I could obtain this diary. I had been doing research work at the LDS Church Office, at the headquarters of the DUP, at the History department of both the U of U and B YU and Finally discovered that his diary was in Pasadena. That year the National Council of State Garden Clubs were holding a convention in Los Angeles. I coaxed Erven into letting me attend that convention. While in California I went to the library in Pasadena and read Anson Call's diary. It really was an excellent experience for me to be able to do the research work on Milestones of Millard" as I learned so many worthwhile historical facts. It was just like attending college for a year. I had graduated from the U of U years before, so this experience made me long to go back to school, which I later did through correspondence. We had two thousand copies of Milestones of Millard" printed, but it took us two years to sell them and I worried all of the lime for fear we would not sell them and I would have to raise the money, along with the other two who had signed the note with Mr. Conover. When we Finally got Mr. Conover paid, I was so relieved, but he said, I have never been paid so fast for print ing a book . Many other companies of DUP ladies had had their county histories printed, but they hadnt worked as diligently at selling their books, so when we decided to have a second printing of Milestones of Millard" printed, Mr. Conover was delighted. Since then we have had two more printings and have sold every copy and now many people are begging for us to have a fifth printing. I have signed each note for these printings. However, I am too old to take that responsibility again. But when we finish selling the rest of our last Builders of Early Millard" we book, 4-- 5 1:00 in the Post Chapel, Douglas in Salt LakeCity. 1982 Education. It was a real sacrifice by about 100 people to give up Thanksgiving with their families in order to mount a massive search covering almost 25 square miles of adverse terrain. When Mis. Sullivan was finally located. Friday afternoon, alter spending 3 nights in the freezing temperatures without a fire, food or water, she was in remarkably good spirits: however its doubtful she could have survived another night of the severe cold. It is also doubtful she could have been located without the well organized and pro- fessionally trained Sheriff and Posee members who coordinated the search. Life is fragile and yet so important to us that the fate of one individual and the possibility ol that one individual still clinging on to life causes man to expend great amounts of time and effort, knowing full well that the odds of success are marginal at best. How happy we were to beat those odds and have Shu ley back with us tor what will be a memorable and joyous Christmas. Shirley is now almost completely healed from frost bitten toes and fingers and she will suffer little permanent damage. We hope that those who offered prayer and physical assistance will be rewarded with blessings ol peace and happiness in their homes this C hristmas Holiday season. God Bless You All, Shirley family and friends two-cred- it 9 Pioneer illing to sign for another printing of "Milestones of Millard. I have had many inquiries about another printing, in fact one group told me they would take orders for eight books. However everything costs so much more than it did a tew years ago. I think I will make inquiries about the cost and perhaps we can find some one who will be willing to sign for another printing. If four or five would sign the note, it would not be such a risk. 1 et usknow your feelings. may find some one w ho is w PUBLISHER & EDITOR Susan B.
