at writer's reguest at the discretion of the editor If I had a wish ritten by James Deardenfor a Reflections contest in 1 990 during Desert Storm If were dreaming would wish for a motorcycle a YZ 250 I would start it up like a streak of lightening would race through the hill to the top of the mountain The smell of sagebrush strong from a light fresh ram sharpened my senses The suspension was great jump after jump it pushes me higher and higher till I feel like a bird soaring in the sky This motorcycle a streak of white white as the clouds The seat a gleaming red ruby The chrome shining like a diamond A bold red flame accents the gas tank This is the motorcycle of my dreams I would race from mountain to mountain w ith the wind in my face would feel happy and free But this was only a dream My be the wish would world When I think about war it worries me I don’t every peace in like to think about it But have to My brothers 21 and in the National Guard He could go to war We have freedom and opportunity here that few nations have We are strong and can help other nations fight against dictators that want to take over their country love our country and want to be free The end The flags are beautiful Dear Editor saw the Saturday evening as was driving up the street towards the fairgrounds beautiful sight of many flags flying from the tops of the grand stand There was just enough of a breee that the flags were flying in waves of glory felt an ache tn my heart and a fierce pride had come to the Last Chance Demolition Derby People were standing tn line to buy their tickets laughing and talking as they signed their name hoping to win one fo the prizes given by generous sponsors of the Derby sat and saw all the red hearted volunteers our unsung heros the fireman and the EMT’s the Posse the parents teachers and students and so many others that make an event like this succeed sat and watched and listened as the Star Spangle Banner was sung the colors presented and as the American Legion gave a tribute of hail and farewell with the gun salute and the playing of taps After the savage hours of the past week and others were able to bow our heads and remember the victims the cities and our nation1 Here was at an event planned by young group of citizens in a small western town to benefit our own local people An example of what this great nation is all about' Our president said “in the west our posters of “Dead or Alive" could be used again" against the group that murder from ambush pray that will always be able to come and go to any event local public or private We have turned the other cheek many times Now we must stand up together and fight this known enemy because our nation has been attacked from ambush God Bless America from all of us Sarah Jo Louder O o ° MHUrd County sifts VjrottjTmu arrived officially as of Saturday the 2- of September Many of us here Autumn in Millard County have noticed some of the subtle changes in vegetation and animal life along with the drastic changes in temperature at night and the early mornings Some of us that observe the skies have noticed that clarity of the evening sky as well as the brightness of the band of stars known as the Milky Way Our atmosphere is steady with far less humidity to hinder observer with optical equipment whether it be just a pair of binoculars or a large aperture telescope One prominent object in a moonless night sky away from city lights to the northeast after 2 00 hours is in the constellation of Andromeda The great spiral galaxy M3 can easily be seen with the naked eyes not too far from the horizon It will appear as a small smudge or lingering cloud not resolvable to the naked eyes or even with binoculars If you are fortunate enough to own a rich field telescope in the four inches of aperture range and 00X some of the spiral characteristics an eyepiece that will give a magnification of of this galaxy neighbor almost twice the size of the system that we live in Much has been written about M3 since it gives us an idea of how our system would appear if we living near M Attached to tFje constellation of Andromeda i$ the famed Ringed horse Pegasus of Ancfcnt Greet mythology The combination of these two constellations cover nearly of the distance across our night sky and the diagram should assist our readers in locating these two constellations Although the orientation of Pegasus is upside down as it truly appears in the sky just rotate this newspaper so that the arrow points to you and try to visualize a horse The Greeks did this without the aid of newspapers and only a limited amount of literature Many constellations are obvious to see figures such as Orion “The Great Hunter” or Scorpio “The Scorpion" Some are less obvious or completely obscure as to how the Greeks ever made pictures in the sky Some of these are Capncomus “The Sea Goat” and Ursa Minor (The Little Dipper) as the “Small Bear” In the constellation of Pegasus is a beautiful globular star cluster M 15 ranked as one of the ten most beautiful objects in the sky It is barely visible as a naked eye object at a magnitude of 6 5 but can easily be located with a pair binoculars A modest telescope of four inches or more begin to resolve the stars of this star cluster finally showing its true characteristic with a ten inches of aperture reflector telescope M15 is approximately 39000 light years from us and contains well over 200000 stars One curious fact about M 5 when observing with a fair size telescope is that its brightest members are all red giant stars giving an overall color rendition of this star cluster as orange The diagram below and photographs should assist you in locating these beautiful objects in our northern sky has To all our friends at “home” Dear have had some very good ones But this year someone should have used a brain if they have one Of all the years to give a part of a wrecked airplane as the door prize this was not a good year to do so will not be back to your car show The committee showed they had no pnde in their country nor sympathy for the victims of the disaster we all just witnessed The wrecked was in very bad taste plane part
