Yes!!! The first time saw angels administering to their fellow man was in 1979 It was in the fall was the first person on the scene of the senior citizen bus that hit bridge over the irrigation ditch 2 miles west of Delta there were 14 senior citzens in the bus 7 people died on pact one later at the hospital There were screams of agony cries for help It was scene of horror Some were Blood was everytrapped in the Van where had been awaken at about 6:am and had put in a call for the ambulance to be on the way Say ing there had been an cident little know ing w hat we would find The angels of mercy arrived and went into action They were the EMT’s on call We knew then that more help was needed The call went out for more helps and more ambulances The angels came they did their job with skill and knowledge The hands on care was tender and efficient Very shortly the victims were on their way to the little the hospital in Delta where another group of angels took overthe staff of nurses and doctor worked surmounting obstacles of room that was designed a small emergency to handle two patients At the scene there were other local residents that came to offer their Angels among us!! help Every time the pager goes off with a ambulance within a heart beat the EMTs respond and are on their way to assist in a professional course of tion Angels among us! For over 7 years have seen this happen whether the call be for a drowned child an expectant mother cardiac rest auto accidents falls poisons SIDS deaths bums whatever the case maybe these angels of mercy are on call 24 hours call for the a day Do you have to look far for the angels they re here when you need them Yes there are Angels among us!! Would Way System the arrangement of stars lead them to conjure the various animals ships and instruments that are known here on the planet Earth? For those observers that own a small telescope the red planet Mars is located in Leo the Lion at approximately :00 PM looking almost due west Its fiery red color makes it easy to locale in our sk ies Presently Mars is getting further away from us as our speeding planet Earth in its orbit around the Sun leaves it behind At this time you will need at least a four inch telescope in aperture with the capability of yielding at least 200 power This will be useable on a clear still night when the atmosphere is transparent One of the constellations that although not very prominent has some objects worth observ ing This is Cancer "The Crab" and is located :00 PM exactly due west at This constellation contains one of the most remarkable triple stars in our skies This is the star Zeta Cancri ( ) also named Tegmeni The main star is an F8 orange star while its main companion is a GO or yellow stat This pair revolves in an orbit averaging 75 billion miles center to center with a revolution period of approximately 60 years The third component Zeta C Cancri revolves about the pair once every 50 years and billion from 16 central odd miles C the star The averages thing about Zeta is that it revolves around the primary in a retrograde orbit around the primary star which is the opposite of almost every other binary system in our universe! Zeta Cancri is a C2 Even more amazing about this system is that Zeta C’s type star much like our Sun orbit wobbles quite somewhat that leads astronomers to suspect that it too may have one or two companions These havi not been seen by astronomers and are suspect to be white dwarf stars Of the four stars kaown to exist each are approximately the same mass as our Sun The Zeta Cancri system has been determined to be approximately 70 light years from us Another fine object in Cancer is the M44 star cluster known as the "Praesepe" or the "Beehive" star cluster It is sometimes referred to as the Manger This cluster of stars is one of the largest nearest and brightest of the galactic star clusters It is clearly visible to the naked eye and appears as a nebula A good pair of binoculars will reveal 50 or more stars in this cluster A small rich field telescope will reveal as many as 250 The estimated distance of the cluster from us is approximately 525 light years The stars in this group range in color from white to orange and is quite impressive with a rich field telescope of three inches or more and a The magnification of Beehive star cluster is pictured below month Delta Public pm 5:30 31 Miss Hinckley tryouts June 2 3 4 Clothing Camp June 4 Blood Pressure & Immunization 1:30 am Cllinic Delta Public Health & 30 pm June 6 & 7 Millard Activity Camp County Fair Building Delta June 28 3rd Annual Cancer Society Gold Tourney Sunset GolfCourse Delta Contact Scott Drummond July 23 25 & 26 "Promised Valley" a Fillmore Utah Stake and Pahvant Valley Theatre production August 12 Registration for DeltaTillmore students Dutton Phptog'aphy Phelps The M44 "Beehive" star cluster in Cancer B $ Reporting Denn Staff Weather Bv Reed Jeffery Jay T Rogers W'!' I980’s management and oversight along with billing serv ices has been provided by the Sheriff’s Office as directed by the county commission As we celebrate EMS Week we should also take note of not only the ambulance service we have but also the excellent hospital emergency room staff we have here Also since the have required all deputy sheriffs to become EMT certified and recently the Utah Highway Patrol has likewise started requiring their personnel to become EMT certified In recent years the rescue trucks from the Fillmore and Delta fire departments have become a very critical element in assisting ambulance and law enforcement personnel with extrication fire suppression and in most cases good old muscle power at all injury accident scenes have received many letters of commendation for our EMS personnel including all factions have mentioned Some of the letters have come from local people but most have been from out of the area injury victims family members and in many cases observers who have been either doctors or other EMS trained persons that have the an onto scene of accident So if you know someone involved in E M S happened their services at some point in our lives I’m close enough to the system to know we have the best and congratulate and thank each and every person involved in anvwav with our local EMS We here in Sarah Ja Lauder recent election of officers for the Millard Ambulance and EMT Association new officers were elected Scon Bee Jerry WEST President Diane Moyet- Secretary Karen ing officers: Morris Burton and Marion Bunker Ken Train- Curtis Officer Howard Officer Betty Jo rah Jo COMPANY Sheriff Ed Phillips EMS National 18-2- At a 64624 BY SUSAN leave West FAX Fillmore DUWU PUBLISHING husband hitting him with an object and ripping at his face with her nails When the husband strikes back in self defense the wife runs to the phone calls the police and reports abuse Who are the cops going to believe when they arrive? That's part of the reason many men do not strike back in a domestic violence situation Most are also aware of the severe damage they are capable of doing and consciously try to limit it The other reason has to do with the way we teach our children Little girls are taught its okay to slap and when they ’re older we tell them “If he tries anything slap him" At the same time little boys are told “Never hit a girl" When he’s oldeswe tell him he's a bully if he hits a woman So why don’t men get out of an abusive relationship? Probably the same reason women don't economics and concern for the children Many men fear the violence they Since women still get physical have experienced may be directed against their children custody of children in over 85 of all divorce cases men are hesitant to leave knowing Men are also the ones usually limit their access to their children the courts will severely required by the courts to meet financial obligations after a divorce and few can afford to -- By Delta Utah Rates on Request Advertising Second C'sst Postage Paid at Delta mns or mg frying by Many comic strips depict men being France living in 18th and 19th century rolling pins and we laugh at the image Imagine men were forced to dress in women s clothing sit being beaten by your w ife Those the village This humiliatbackwards on a donkey and hold its tail as they rode through and jeers from the community If ing experience known as Charivari brought laughter suffered the punishment the husband somehow escaped his nearest male neighbor his home instead After all the beating had taken place close to takes place and think it s Most of us have a difficult time imagining husband banering since men are extremely reluctant a rare occurrence Police reports seem to bear this out Judith Light addressed to report such incidents A movie “Men Don’t Tell" starring and her character eventually got it the subject but of course she was mentally ill is almost completely ignored in our husbands together For the most part w ives beating this phenomenon is society and remains invisible even though is based on research The statistic that “one woman is battered every 15 seconds which also indicated “one man is battered every 14 seconds: The same study showed 54 of all “severe" violence was committed by women not men Other surveys and National Family Violence Survey studies have resulted in similar conclusions The conducted in 1975 and 1985 showed men are just as likely to he victims of domestic violence as women In 99 to avoid accusations of gender bias the assault rates were the 2947 women in the 1985 survey The recomputed based only on the responses ol men are the ones more likely to be to women new results confirmed that even according assaulted by their partners omen are typically seen as Violent women go against our deeply ingrained beliefs weaker and more helpless than men and men on the other hand arc seen as more sturdy Men on the average are bigger and stronger than women and in a fist and s and man the size strength are neutralized average fight can do more damage However A 984 study of 6200 cases by guns and knives fireplace pokers and other weapons violence involved weapons of reported domestic assault found 86 ol iolence did while 25 of he a piece of cake Confessing to being knocked around by another man would man faces No compared to admitting your wife heal you Imagine the ridicule a wonder most male ictims are afraid to go public Incidents reported to police are met and West Millard Ambulance EMT Association Pafflh Mgmtfnin Rfpair t9hayt?h Shane Dutton m Advance Subscriptions Sand address changed P O Box 249 There’s nothing funny about hitting your husband women swing chased US W F Ider Robert illmore Call Judge Stan Robison Court Day p m N 200 Delta (Citv Buildinst) Call Publisher West Desert Archaeological Society Meeting 7:30 pm Millard Fillmore Library Meeting Room Every 4di Wednesday Utah League of Writers Delta Chapter meeting 7 pm Roberta Dutson Home 4 5 South 400 West Delta Social Security Rep Fillmore City Office Building 8:30 am 12:30 pm Last Wednesday UAMi meetings Call Linda Cropper TO THE EDITOR letters ) A man cannot know avarything bsjt avaryon hat to hava ha knows thoroughly Gustav Fraytag There are members We to thank the officers of 1996 for their service and dedication Good job The EMT' l in West Millard train ery month They are taught new skills wish rtn by any ara aH A relatad othar to tha nama?
