( lty Roger Fort Deseret news Perserverance and cooperation helping the restoration work progress at Fort Deseret We have overcome and learned problems many things during the ongoing restoration of the fort Working and together being involved in the restoration of Fort Deseret is interesting and rewarding On Sept 1 1989 one more layer of adobe mud went on the east wall at Fort Deseret As the work a needed proceeded porthole made of rough hewn lumber was embedded in the adobe wall A is Anderson museum curator will have slides and commentary Election of officers for the 89 90 year will take place Until now the organizing oTicers have served large amount of adobe mud was needed to surround the front en trance of the fort The boys helped to paik this mud in more firmly and had a lot of fun as they helped on this project We deeply appreciate Norman Henke who mixed the adobe mud with his backhoe Others giving of their time and helping at the fort were Brian Eliason Joe Tarin Mark Western honoring Jackie Cox at an open house at the pool on September 20 1989 from The public is invited 5 8pm There will be free swimming refreshments balloons and more Jackie is res gmrg sTer 8 y'ears as aquatic director at West Millard Community Swimming Pool She will be moving to Jjayton to pursue a new caieer as a tour guide Jackie has resided in Oak City for 14 years Dunngthat time has been active in the community Jackie was one of the original swim pool board members and helped raise support to build the pool She w as hired at the pool in 1979 as a swimming instructor and lifeguard In July 1981 she became aquatic director Jackie was born raised and educated in California She competed in synchronized swimming in high school and diving at college She w as a m ajorette for the Rams football team IjOS Angeles for 5 years and for Loyola College marching band Jackie traveled throughout Korea Japan and 15 United States performing the baton in California for 2 years to Oak City Since moving Jackie has taught baton and or gamzed 2 traveling baton corps in Delta and Fillore In 1979 she became color guard advisor for the Delta High marching band 1983 found Jackie busy organizing the Delta High Booster Club Her duties included fund raising for the high school sports programs for 4 She ran the concessions years Jackie fondly remembers her 2 years as cheerleader advisor She made up the dance rou tines helped the girls with fund raisers organized tryouts and chaperoned the girls to all events Jackie has played city league vol leyball for Dutsons Supply for several years West Millard Comhired Pool munity Swimming Jackie as aquatic director to organize the pool develop programs and do whatever necessary to bring attendance up and increase revenue She opened the pool for more hours and publicized it by writing a weekly column for the Concessions and newspaper swimming aids began selling at the pool and fun programs were initiated under Jackie’s direction Some of the Millar it is recognized County new mothers with that breastfeeding problems don’t always have somewhere to turn for help To meet this need and to continue with our commitment to serve the people of Millard the Delta and Fillmore County Medical Centers are Community offering the services of Terilyn as a resource person Anderson who may be contacted with questions or problem solving regarding breast or bottle feeding T is service is offered to any new mother regardless of where her baby was delivered Breastfeeding is not a reflex it is a learned process In our present culture many women have never witnessed an infant at the breast When a women is called upon to nurse her own infant much of her success depends on a learning process Successful lactation dependson proper information (Ruth A LawTenee MD) Though the majority of mothers today are breastfeeding when they leave the hospital within a few months weeks or even days m any of them switch to the bottle Why9 Insufficient milk supply breast soreness and infections and general confusion are some of the reasons Often family and friends give incorrect or inconsistent advice leading to greater confusion and worsening problems Having someone to contact for correct consistent inform a lion gives the mother and baby every chance for success with breastfeeding These services are provided by Anderson a Registered Terilyn Nurse employed by the Delta Community Medical Center She from Weber State Colgraduated lege in 1985 with her associate degree in nursing She attended the Intermountain prenatal instructors conference this past April and has studied other course material on infant feeding This November she will attend a five day Lactation Educator Training program certifying her as a lactation specialist This course is sponsored by the Division of Nursing Department of Continuing Education in Health Sciences UCLA Extension the UCLA Stay Fit 50 Mile Club Delta Torpedoes Age Group Swim Team Lifeguard Christmas parties and Lifeguard parties in the summer at the Reservoir thanks to Jackie’s spirit and organization Last March Jackie and 2 assistant managers traveled to Cedar City to recertify in the new American Red Cross WSI Lifeguard Training Standard First Aid and CPR courses She is always prepared and on top of things In March 1988 Jackie was elected as State Aquatics Representative for School of Nursing School of Medicine and the vice presidents Andrew J Sandor Clark Waile UCLA in cooperation withHCASt Marks Hospital and the University of Utah Health Sciences Center During this course Terilyn will attend lectures covering various topics such as medical significance of and drugs breastfeeding breastfeeding working women and breastfeeding medical problems latching on problems anatof lactation omy and physiology matemalinfant nutrition comafter the fourth mon concerns week etc Tenlyn teaches the breastfeed ing class as a part of the prenatal course offered periodically at the Delta Community Medical Center She also makes visits to the Hospital for breastfeeding prob lems giving one to one help if needed Since January she has been contacting new mothers shortly after they leave the hospital to encourage and answer questions All new mothers are welcome to call Tenlyn at her home any time wnth concerns or ques tions For more information or help contact either the
