Crisis Center) Why She Stays Diane O Hendrickson MS If you are the parent of an abused teenage girl you may have asked yourself “Why does my daughter put up with the way her boyfriend treats her?” Your daughter may be furious with him for hurting her and the next day she may be in love again or she may make excuses for him as if she had never been angry You may see her go back and forth as she changer her mind over and over again You may be wondering if there is something wrong with your daughter or with the way you brought her up Ultimately most teens do leave battering relationships It may take weeks months or years and they may break up and go back several times before the relationship finally ends Sadly some abusive dating relationships go on into marriage while others end more tragically in serious injury or death The reasons that girls keep seeing their boy friends in spite of violence are similar in some respects to the reasons that some adult women remain in abusive marriages In many cases the victim loves the abuser in spite of the violence and wants the abuse to end not the relationship In the next several articles we will discuss some of the reasons given by victims in abusive relationships about why they stay Hope Fear and Love -
