speaking at the second meeting of the Ash Grove leaders from Juab councilofcommunity and Millard counties held at the Leamington cement plant on June 24th Mr Keller and Donald E Robinson Engineering Section Supervisor for the stale division explained they arc presently in the process of evaluating a quest by Ash Grove to supplement their coal with fuels derived from used oil and tires Mr Keller said that in older to modify the fuels they arc now using Ash Grove must obtain a new permit from the Utah Department of Environmental Quality He anticipates it will take another 90 to 120 days before the divican be sion’s final recommendation made Following the development of a final recommendation concerning the permit the proposed permit information must be published in newspapers of general circulation prior to a pcriixl If any person requests it a public hearing concerning the permit must be held according to Keller Mr Keller said there arc six specific types of pollutants that arc considered by the US Environmental Protection Agency to be critical The State Division of Air Quality monitors for these plus pollutants For the many the Slate of pollutants Utah’s standards arc from 100 to 300 times more restrictive than the federal standards “Utah is one of the most strict states in setting pollution standards" Mr Keller reported Mr Clyde Bunker and Dr Thomas Chandler members of the Ash Grove Community Council sought assurance from Ash Grove that they are not continuing to seek permission to substitute fuels as part of their fuels mix Messrs Robinson and Keller assured the council that Ash Grove was neither requesting such approval nor is the state considering such approval Mr Ken Ware Ash Grove’s Envireassured the ronmental Specialist council that the company is only questing the use of used tires and oils at present However Mr Ware did not rule out the possibility of renewing such a request in the future if conditions change While no vote was taken the Community Council seemed supportive of burning scrap tires and used oil as fuels in the cement plant near Leamington Senator Cary Peterson asked Ash Grove representatives if there is some way in which the company can assist local communities deal with their used tires and oil The company is looking into such possibilities as part of their negotiations with potential fuel suppliers Senator Peterson stressed for the council the importance of finding useful ways of disposing of used oil which he reported is often illegally dumped into drains or onto the ground jeopardizing ground water supplies A 29 Miss Liberty 1992 is Fran Finlinson daughter of Vance and Helen Finlinson of Oak City Her si attendant is Shawna Reynolds daughter of Terry and Marcy Hansen of Delta Her 2nd attendant is of Stoddard daughter Marylynn Stephen and Anne Stoddard of Delta "Success and winning is all in ones state of mind" Emcee Dan Perry said “As present these young women they are all winners" The girls were judged as they spoke on the 1992 Miss Liberty theme of “Long May it Wave" The contestants were Dianne Hales Christa Christensen Marylynn Suxldard Loric Tanner Fran Finlinson Shawna Reynolds and Deborah Tanner Along with their speech the girls were also judged individually on their poise appearance and their answer to a Finlinson described the flag as standing for hope peace and bravery She said “The United States flag is a symbol of hard fought freedom” Finlinson will be a senior at Delta High School this year "It is said a diamond is a chunk of coal that is made gixxl by pressure" Reynolds said “It is the same for our country our flag represents thcdiamond our country has become” Reynolds is a 1992 graduate from Della High and will be attending the College of Eastern U lah in summer tun June 26th through the 28th The town came alive when trailers and motor homes RVs and pic k lips roared into town to take part in the fifth Annual National ATV Jamboree 1992 was the second year that the Jamboree was ad vertised nationally and the response was “Participation tins year encouraging was up nearly 100 riders from last year" said organizer Shari Ashworth "We had probably 280 riders” Riders don’t come alone of course called They usually travel in groups families For every rider four or five other people were cheering them on "There arc alot of advantages to keeping this event small" added Ashworth stressing that the Jimborce is not for racers “The trails are for casual use we’ll probably develop other trails for faster riders in the future or hold another event in the fall” disclosed Ashworth "I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to have these people here" said shari "This town has extreme Ashworth value to these people who come here and they don’t want to leave My family is growing larger every year being tended It’s not about the money anymore it’s about the bonding of people across the country" Ashworth tells the story of two people who bought two acres of wild i surprise question Seth Jackson Jackson selected as Grand Marshall Long time Delta resident Seth Jackson has been selected to be the Grand Marshall for the 4th of July parade in Delta Seth who will celebrate his 80th birthday this September was bom in Johnson (Kane County) Utah The famto Salt Lake City shortly after moved ily and then to Greenwood (near Holden) where his father worked as a farmer When Seth was 9 years old his father passed away and his mother moved her family of 6 children to Holden where they all struggled to make it through the depression Seth joined the C CC (Civilian Conservation Corps) m the early 1930s He married Alisha Works in 1934 and they established their home in Delta Saturday July 4th 7:00 pm Hinckley Rodeo Grounds They raised three sons T red (LaVerl) of Oak City Dwaine ami Sheldon who now live in West Valley In the early years Seth worked in the old D Stevens Store for Bill Starley He then worked for J Lamont Works Cabinet Shop after which he worked for the Utah State Road Dept Other employment has included local lumber yards and a second time for J Lamont Works Cabinet Shop and also the Utah Stale Road Dept He retired from the State Road several years ago Seth has always been active in local community affairs He served 45 years with the Delta Volunteer Fire Dept serving as chief on three different occasions He was active for many years in the Delta Lyons Club serving as Secretary Treasurer and Vice President He spent over 25 years actively participating in local scouting programs He served many years as commissioner and received a Second Miler award in 1979 In later years he has been very active in the local Senior Citizens group He has served as Vice President President and currently serves on the Board of Directors He and his wife Alisha spent many many hours working in and serving as hosts in our museum They both now spend at least one day of the week helping with Deseret Industries He has been an active chuah member serving in many different callings He was a member of the old First Ward Bishopric Delta Utah Slake HighCoun cil High Priest Group Leader and many other church callings Many local residents and neighbors are recipients of Seth’s unselfish individual service Many snowy sidewalks have been shove' d many lawns cut dixjrs windows u J cabinets have all been taken care of with no thought of ever being paid It’s his very nature to be of service to his fellow man The Della area thanks Seth and others like him who have given much to make our community a better place for us to the city streets Balloons bake sales craft and foixi bixnlis filled Saturday with the kind of energy and colorful vitality that makes Main Street USA in Disneyland such a huge success The difference being that in Fillmore it’s the real thing EMT’s demonstrated their procedures Fire trucks from Learn ington Della Holden and Fillmore had a muster battle turning fire hoses on with themselves playing a a giant colored ball Then the companies turned the hoses to the sky creating a shower that fell on the appreciate crowd standing in the 90 weather The kids in the crowd (of all ages) delighted in
