Show Page 6 - Millard County Kelly CSPS Thurs Dec 10 1987 Edwards and Natalie Halladay Halladay and Edwards to marry Roger and Jane Halladay of Cedar City UT are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter Natalie Jane to Kelly Dean Edwards son of of and Deanna Edwards 19 December Meadow Saturday 1987 You are cordially invited to at- tend the reception held in their honor that evening from 7 pm to 9 pm in the Cedar City 9th Ward Cultural Hall ta This years program is in full swing This program is sponsored by the Fillmore Area Chamber Council Teen of Commerce and the In our area there are many families in need If you would like to help please make a donation at any of the Fillmore businesses or participating mail your donation to co Chamber of Commerce Box 1214 in Fillmore If you know of anyone in our area who is in need this holiday season please contact Wes Heward at or at or Shari Ashworth in the evenings Your help is appreciated 256 South 900 West Kelly is the grandson of Louella Edwards of Meadow UT and the late Gerald Edwards and Gladys Duncan of Centerville UT and the late Gerald V Duncan Natalie is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Mac Hallady of Provo and Mrs Pearl Bennett and the late Mr Bennett East Millard DUP The East Millard County Daughters of Utah Pioneers are gathering material to be used in the publication of their third book The two preceding books are Milestones of Millard and Builders of Early Milard The new book will take up where Builders left off recording the histories of the early pioneers and their succeeding families coming to the Utah Territory and settling in East Millard County Early pioneer histories dating back to 1847 which were not cluded in either of the earlier books will be accepted You may submit as many histories as you like This includes histories of your great grandparents relatives and parents grandparents your immediate family We wish to cover as near as possible the settlement and development of East Millard businesses Histones of buildings schools and other palces of interest which contributed to the development of your town will be gladly accepted and published We also need old time stories poems and songs and of which are very course photographs important in the telling of a family’s history Be sure to write (lightly) names of who appears in the photo and also the name and address of the person submitting it Phone Angie Green or for further information write to PO Box 876 Fillmore UT 84631 From a family of seven boys' the three oldest have been interested in art Each has been since childhood developing his own style in his own direction Richard C Douglas and Don Jolley have an impressive exhibit on display throughout the month of December Richard the eldest has been concentrating on detailed wildlife and western theme painting Living in Logan he and painhas been working He has exhibited in ting several major art shows in Utah National the April Salon at cluding Springville Museum of Art Last spring Richard was one of the prize winners in that particular show Douglas art teacher at Millard High School enjoys dabbling in a variety of but considers painting his media favorite He likes both naturalistic and abstract styles He lives in Fillmore and SCIPIO Ph Virginia Warner Virginia Koford Warner to celebrate 88th birthday The family of Virginia Koford Warner would like to acknowledge Virginia’s 88th birthday She was born December 14 1899 in Brigham City UT She spent her youth in Salt I ake City Holbrook Idaho Malad Idaho then moved to Los Angeles California where she met and married Loren Warner on May 19 1927 They had three Fillmore Jim Citrus Heights California David as Vegas Nevada After living in Cahlorma where Jerry and Jim were born the family moved to a farm in Mavkay Idaho Virginia came to Tillmore and stayed with Owen and Eva Warner for the birth of their third child David After the birth they went back to Idaho and moved the family to Fillmore where the attended schools and all boys graduated from Millard High After the boys were out of school and on their own Loren and Virginia moved back to California They returned to Fillmore in 1962 when Loren got sick and was forced to retire On June 8 1965 Loren passed away Virginia stayed in Fillmore and worked at the booth during the Tourist Information summer for several years Las egas and California visits were made often doesn’t get out much Virginia She loves it when the kids anymore come for a visit She has eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandWe all love her very much children Virginia! Happy Birthday A Marg Wasden spent Thanksgiving weekend at the home of her daughter Ted and Gwen Hone and in Orem She enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiv mg dinner with her son and Richard and Shirley Goodman To celebrate her 82nd birthday she was treated to a dinner accompanied by 12 family members at CJ Diggin in Midvale There she was delightfully entertained by a magician and birthday song provided by the restaurant staff Mrs Jamie Rabiz and Stacee Salt Lake Mrs Kerry Monroe and family Monroe and Mrs Kay Monroe and Richfield visited Mrs Dix family Monroe They all went to Sacrament meeting in Delta where Mrs Warren Monroe had their baby blessed Mrs Dave Simmons Provo visited her parents Mr's Kenneth Noland Write letters to Santa December is a magic month Enter into the magic with your children and help them write a letter to Santa Claus understand his big red sleigh has left the North Pole and is on its way to our town and every town to pick up those precious letters and deliver them to Santa and Mrs Claus He depends on the boys and girls to tell him what they especially want to find under their trees Christmas morning If your letters are posted before December 23 you will receive an answer and a special little gift right away North Address to: Santa Claus Pole PO Box 876 Fillmore Utah 84631 Douglas and Sue Whitaker Marriage announced Mr and Mrs Melvin Whitaker are pleased to announce the marriage of their son Douglas Jay to Susan Rice daughter of Mrs Irene Cook on October 30 1987 at Kanosh Ward A reception will be held in their honor on December 18 1987 at the Kanosh Ward Kanosh UT from 7 to 9 pm Everyone is invited to attend No vitations will be sent locally The President Millard Fillmore Library Hunter By Gwen Fillmore 25 South Librarian Utah 100 West Ward Starley Fund On the day of the funeral services for Ward Starley a former resident of Fillmore IJertis Brampton’s sister Kathlyn started a fund for a Memorial shelf for Ward Anyone wishing to add a few dollars to complete the memorial may bring or sent it to the Fillmore Library The library board is happy to see these plaques go on the shelves as permanent tributes to citizens of our area Volunteers Needed There are several stacks of books in the workroom needing the attention of some careful person (or persons) to repair them so they may be reshelved for circulation We have not done any extensive repair work on books for many years spending our time on moving and on getting out new books Tears and cleaning have been kept up with generally but spines and other repairs are needed Anyone wishing to learn book repair and with the intention of spending several hours a week for a while should call the library for information or come in and discuss the project Maurine Stone furnished the First Monday Art Programs for the Library Don the youngest of the three lives in Mesa Arizona where he is a partner in Artec Design an architectural drafting and rendering business He has always enjoyed doing detailed ink drawings but occasionally experiments with other media All the work shows a dedication to detail and careful painstaking workmanship The three brothers exhibited in the old library reading room two years ago The Exhibit will be open during Library hours (3 to 7 weekdays and to 6 Saturdays) or by appointment with Mrs Hunter The show is made up of paintings and ink drawings including a beautiful rendering of the Territorial Statehouse Museum Humorous Books Last week we mentioned the new books for children and humorous young people Don’t forget the light hearted books on the adult shelves We have several good writers who emphasize the lighter side of we all need occasionally These books by Erma Bombeck and shelf others are on the like them! under 818 Try Also in the lighter vein are writings of Dorothy Gilman in the fiction section with her Mrs Pollifax contributions and the delightful “Nun in the Closet” Short Story Collections If you don’t want to be all wrapped up in a long novel try the collections of short stories and stop reading after one at a time Let us mention three new editions: Edgar Allen Poe’s Tales of Irving’s The Washington Suspense Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Other Tales O Henry’s The Gift of the Magi and other Stories These are only part of the new collections available for a few minutes enjoyment Adding to our card catalogue are subject headings which will help trace down the location of short stories in books of collections We are just working on this so it is not complete yet but it will be a great help in the future Art Exhibit Pleases The Three Brothers Art Show by C Douglas Jolley and his two brothers is well appreciated by visitors very being to the library and by the Fine Arts Guild who met Dec 3 (See separate story) Library will close for the Christmas Holidays at 5 pm on Dec 24 and all day on Dec 25 and 26 It will also be closed Jan —See you in the library’ The Fine Arts Guild met at 4 pm Thursday December 3 1987 in the President Millard Fillmore Library Tafta Watson conducted the meeting She also read a humorous poem about Mrs Santa Claus delivering the goods because Santa was sick Sylvia Huntsman read a very moving tribute to Helen Huntsman r The time was1 then turned over to Marie Jensen Anna May Quatnberg and Catherine Nielsen who presented an entertaining program of lovely Christmas music ending with the entire attendance joining in singing some carols Refreshments were served from a beautifully decorated table Next meeting will be on January 7 1988 professional f perfume tester " Nofia'Tonlpfcmson Pauline Robinson and Three extended care patients of the Fillmore Community Hospital eager to make good use of their time tied a beautiful baby quilt It is for sale at the Hospital Gift Shop If anyone needs a baby quilt to be tied these ladies will donate their labor as part of their therapy They are all hope!
