Dwight Huntsman of Fillmore Utah has been decorated with the Air Force Achievement Medal at Malmstrom Air Force Base Hospital Mont The Achievement Medal is awarded to airman for meritorious service acts of courage or other accomplishments material is a medical Tikelsky specialist Margaret Probert a 1986 graduate Millard High School and Linda Quarnberg a Junior at the same school were among 2000 teens to attend Future Homemakers of America’s annual national leadership meeting July in Orlando Florida In addition to receiving leadership training Future of America members Homemakers learned to develop their skills as team participants family members and community leaders The meeting them “Spotlight on You” emphasized the organization’s belief in the importance of each member Since many Future Homemakers of America programs are group oriented it takes the combined special talents of each contributing The dividuals to achieve success meeting stressed the organization’s philosophy that youth can make a difthat individual efference in society combined equal forts cooperatively group projects that work At the same those time the theme congratulated members who choose individual projects to reach their goals tackling releissues that affect vant contemporary the family and community A number of these substance abuse fitness pregnancy and nutrition teen suicide child abuse community service family relations future careers and the changing roles of men and women in the home and - were among those examinworkplace-ed at the meeting through focus session hands-iworkshops Robison son of Mr and Mrs Alison Robison returns this week from his mission and will report in the Fillmore 1st Ward on Sunday August 10 at 2:45 pm meeting and a focus session on teen suicide prevention Altogether students at this year’s Future Homemakers of America annual meeting chose from nearly 100 hours of workshops and events geared toward helping them strengthen and expand their abilities as public speakers project planners chapter organizers and responsible citizens The Millard School District donated $200 toward Margaret’s meeting expenses as she represented Utah in the Project of Work category Margaret competed at the State level and won the opportunity of representing her high school and the Utah State Future Homemakers of America at the National level In the national competition Margaret’s score was excellent and she was awarded three stars and the gold medal for her project Margaret’s mother Gloria Probert and Linda’s mother Connie Quarnberg accompanied their daughters on the trip and enjoyed Orlando sightseeing with the girls The girls appreciate the encouragement and help that they received from Robin Kesler their advisor Future Homemakers of America is a national vocational student organizaof 325000 home tion organization economics students through grade 12 The program emphasis prepares youth to assume their adult roles in a complex society It is unique among youth because projects and organizations events such as the national leadership are planned and run by its meeting student members This prime focus of of America Future Homemakers leadership helps members develop those “skills for goal setting problem solving decision making and interperin the sonal world of work and in the home Future Homemakers of America is Rowley of Sandy spent Saturday July 26 with their parents Ray and Dan and Peggy brother and Gwen They came especially for the wedding of their cousin John and Cindy Jim and June Smith left Fillmore July 6 for a weeks vacation They diovc to Provo where they attended the blessing of their great grandson Palmer Chris John Smith He is the son of Kirby and Peggy Smith and grandson of LaVey and Madelyn Smith of Bloomington St George Utah The following day they drove to Yellowstone National Park where they were joined by their daughters Elaine her husband Bob Gardner and Charlene her husband Dick Miller and the children of both families They all enjoyed touring the park and camping together after which they drove to ID where they toured the buildings containing rocket displays of all University of Dallas TX where Mark is studying in the field of medicine Following the wedding and open house Jim and June drove with Gail and Sue Ann to Challis ID where they visited Bob and Elaine Gardner and their family On their way home they stopped in Granger UT and visited with their daughter Sharlene her husband Dick Miller and their family arriving back in Fillmore Aug 4 On Thursday July Receives Master’s BussHa'I ii fi i Greenland island is the world's largest Other outstanding presentations were made by Dean Robison on “Preserving the Precious” Helen Mitchell Maxine Robins Nora Price Christi Whicker Marie Payne Jackson and Sylvia Jensen Refreshments were served following the meeting ¥ tremony will be solemnized in the Salt ake Temple August 12 The groom as served a mission to Brazil Thecou-lwill live in Provo while attending YU LIBRARY NEWS By Suen Librarian Hunter Volunteers We had quite an experience with volunteers last week Sandy daughter of Joyce and Scott Tarbet is visiting her grandparents Joe and Madge Warner and needed a service project for an award she is working on in California Jesse and Sandy and her cousins Chris and Kelli Derek Drummond Warner and Chris’ friend Matt Funk Warner spent two and grandmother afternoons helping sort books and stamp them with our new President Millard Fillmore ibrary bookstamp They did hundreds of books Our books are in quite a scramble Because of three water seepage problems we have moved them all over the basement of the building Some of these books ate discards from US Military Libraries and had to be stamped as ours as well as needing all the accession work done We do have a great need of volunteers at the present time as our goal is to have every book we own ready to go on our new shelves in our new library We have had so much to do in preparing the building that we are behind in our book preparation Anyone having a few hours to spare is requested to call in or phone and arwork range for some volunteer Anyone can learn what we have to get done Please help us out The Library Board is pleased to report that we are almost halfway there on the “Shelves That LOVE Built” Project More and more shelves are being purchased as memorials to loved ones The past week shelves were purchased for Edward Nelson James A Kelly William E and Lrma Payne McBride (5 each) as well as individual shelves for others The fund is over $3000 now We invite all to participate including those citizens who used to live in ITIlmore but now live all over the world Where ever go meet someone who is ‘from’ Tillmore We’d love to have your support in this project Book Donations Several people have brought books in very good condition to us for our new facility Some very noteworthy books have been donated by Don and alkci This couple live in a Marjorie home above Holden during summer and in Salt Lake during the winter Professor Walker is retired from the U of U faculty He has donated books on western history some written by himself by his students or books he has been asked to review for the Utah Historical Quarterly as well as others he thinks we wriuld be interested in The Library wishes to thank him for these quality books and for his donation to the shelves (He donated to the shelves before we had the present project) We are interested in good fiction as well as quality There will be a special section in the Special Collections room for early copyright copyrighted before 1925 Some of these books are classics and most of them very interesting We do however reserve the right to place the donated books wherever we desire even to the used book table at the Library Bazaar in October See you in he Library |
