tism of their granddaughter Stott She was baptized by her uncle kay Stott and confirmed by Shields Also in attendance from this area were grandparents Joe and Joan Stott of Meadow The Shields enjoyed their visit with their daughter ana Nielson and family ‘Around 9 bidders and others (of whom it may concern) gathered at the kanosh Ward recently to do business concerning the selection of the lowest bidder who will be remodelling the building on the new kanosh Ward Chapel Wilford (Butch) Jensen of Fillmore for received the building project $851419 The new 1st and 4th Ward Chapel in Fillmore was also built by Mr Jensen The Meadow Ward will share their chapel and facilities with the kanosh Watd beginning the latter part of eh Plans are to have the new chapel finished in 9 months or 280 calendar days after the work has begun Sylvia Penney has returned following a most joyous month’s saty in California with her daughter Alice husband Duane and family at I ong Beath The weather was beautiful and the scenery gorgeous with flowers out in full bloom Alice came to kanosh to drive her mother and her Giles Carrol (who is 88 yrs old and real chipper) to California in Sylvia's car to spend their vacations with the Carroll families Picnics and Reunions were held at the park where Mr Carroll’s daughters Beth Gwen Maria and his son Duane and all their families gathered for much fun and visiting Sylvia with some of the Carroll family enjoyed a day out on the ocean in a lovely 65 ft yacht While there Sylvia visited some of her deer hunting friends who come to this area to hunt She also visited Ray Penney a former kanosh resident who suffered a second stroke on New Years Day He and his wife Fdna’s home is in Altcdena but spends time at the in Pasadena for therapy hospital treatments Sylvia reports that Ray is feeling better Alice drove her mother and Mr back to Utah to their homes Another daughter Carla then took her father (Mr Carroll) to spend some time with hef at Mapleton Utah On Sat Feb Iris and Terrill Bond and Dathel Whitaker attended services at the Fillmore graveside Cemetery for their cousin Cheer Brunson Wilhite age 53 daughter of the late Wells and Manilla (Abraham) Biunson Following the services Iris Terrill and Dathel boarded Terrill’s semi truck loaded with hay and headed south At Glendale NV they were met bv Geraldine kimball and her daughter Terrill went on to kathv Brinkcrhoff CA with his load of hay while Iris and Dathel were driven to Overton NV where they were guests of their sister Geraldine until Monday evening Their main reason for the trip to Overton was to visit their mother Juanita Charlesworth who has been with Geraldine and Franklin since the first part of Dec She is feeling pretty well for a 91 yr old lady She and her three daughters enjoyed included taktheir time ing nice walk each day in the lovely sunshine and visiting the historic museum there Around 41 persons attended the choir party held on Wed Feb 5 1986 at the Cultural Hall Choir members and their partners were invited The occasion was to honor one of the choir’s faithful members Leavitt Christensen before he and his wife Rula leave for the mission field Their daughter Janet Watson was also another choir member honored before she and her family leave for Arizona in the near future to make their home A delicious supper was enjoyed by all followed by a tribute which was by Carl given by Elder Christensen Blad Alice Christensen paid a tribute to Mrs Watson Remarks were given by Leavitt following the presentation to him of the book “Teachings of Pres Spencer W kimball" A choir hymn book was also presented to him and passed along the tables to be signed by each choir member-aft- er which they sang "God Be With You Till We Meet The National First Place winner of the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Poster Contest 1985 Sterling Scholar’s show The Art Exhibit in the Fillmore Library presenting the work of Jeanne Sylvester Sterling Scholar for Art at Millard High School was very well received It is gratifying to see so much good quality work produced by a teenager The compositions were citing colorful and well done One of the most prominent pieces was the 1985 National Winner in the American I egion Auxiliary Poppy Poster contest The plaque for winning the Western Division was also displayed She has not yet received the $50 award from National An interesting note was the presentation of many and varied mediums 1 LIBRARY NEWS 7 By Guttit Hunter Librarian CP Miere will we read? A few days ago a young mother and her two small children came through the doorway to the library and stopped suddenly The oldest of the children where will we said "But Mommy read?" He had just looked at the scene before him which was two students studying at ‘his’ table and another with books spread out over the other only two areas where he could read Luckily there is a downstairs room for studying or for reading but it isn’t very handy for researching This young mother is in the habit of coming to the library with her children to help them get acquainted with books and reading to help them go to a ‘special place’ and to get them involved in checking out books and returning them This will and help teach them responsibility pleasure as well She takes time to read them one short book before they choose books to check out for reading at home In our new library there will be plenty of room for studying and for reading In the meantime we ask for your patience City Council The library business was first on the agenda at City Council meeting Feb of the 4 The items were consideration project for Block Grant application and awarding service certificates to Those for 1985 library volunteers were Rischele receiving certificates Purcell for 79 hours Carol Day for 70 hours East Millard Fine Arts Guild for 50 hours Pat Long for 10 hours Sandy and Chip Long for 5 hours each (for shelves in the storage assembling room) The three projects suggested in the first public hearing Jan 21 again in the Feb 4 meeting were: Comprehensive tree planting project throughout Fillmore starting with Main Street participation in the downtown improvement project and purchasing the furnishings for the new library All of these projects are worthy and need to however the project be accomplished for furnish the library was accepted on a motion of Councilman Brinkerhoff and seconded by Councilman Robison Motion carried and donations All the up to now for the library have been put in the construction funds which leaves for shelving tables chairs nothing etc for inside the desks equipment facility Our present furnishings are wholly inadequate and a New Zealand Australia Trip Figi Island & Hawaii Option - Aprill II $109900 Includes - Air Fare Hotels Sightseeing Native Guide Transfers Some Meals Come & Join our fun group Call Ilene Cooper 3 JUDD TOURS REPRESENTATIVE Work exhibited presented acrylic painting poster button collage paper collage ink marker original ceramics and pencil drawing This wide range of materials her helped demonstrate creativity and imagination Jeanne also received notice that some of her work has been accepted in the Show at High School Springs ille for exhibition throughout This is a juried show to February which all the high schools in the state (no matter the size) enter student work She is to be complimented on this achievement as well as her Show in the Library She exhibited a total of 20 pieces from January 27 to Feb 6 mixture We need double the shelving to display the books we have now and need to leave room for growth The application is being prepared through the efforts of Roy Olpin Doris library board member Rasmussen former mayor and Gwen Hunter librarian The next step will be to get the application through the commission before it can be approved by the state Meanwhile we will keep on working to raise money ourselves because we know there are five other projects being submitted by Millard County and its town and vying for the same $60000 Another Review Another English author has been for this week’s review selected Catherine Cookson was born in Tyne Dock South Shields England in 1906 This river area in the very northeast of the country known as Tyneside and its people provide the setting and characters for her many novels In fact so successfully has Mrs Cookson created this area that in 1968 she was the recipient of the Winifred Holtby Award of the Royal Society of Literature of the Best Regional Novel of the Year and in 1974 she was awarded the Freedom of the County Borough of South Shields in recognition of her Catherine services to her hometown Cookson-walso writes under the pseudonym "Catherine Marchant’’-- is is and as popular marvelously prolific in the United States as in Britain Cookson has written 34 novels 8 in the Mary Ann series 8 for children and called “Out Kate” an autobiography The library has 19 of her novels and 2 in paperback We are sure you will like her easy style of story telling and enjoy her wholesome characters See you in the library Pahvant Valiey Senior Citizens Schedule By Ruth Zmitravich Monday Feb 17: Washington’s Birthday No dinner will be served Teb 19: Baked Ham Wednesday Thursday Feb 20: Beef Stew with vegetables Remember the pot luck supper and dance next Friday There will be little gifts for the February birthday people then and a door prize entertainment Let's Dance!
