bunkers than It’s a better most and it’s narrower challenge” Small courses have advantages “You never have to wait” Dennis says “There are no Dennis’ job is to keep the course busy There are nobody ly 30 miles from comes 30 miles to play a course ’’ So the mam draw at Sunset View is local people To gel them out golfing then Dennis has two priorities: improving the course and promoting its use Improving the source is most important “The number one thing that sells a golf course is its condition” he says Golfers who travel will return to courses they like and they'll talk about them with oilier goiters Dennis says like Wendover Delta is a new course so Dennis has some idea of what to look tor “Before they openworked outside for ed m Wendover a while getting it going” he says “1 a lot about turf grass learned maintenance and stuff like that from there and from down in Moab In Moab was in charge of everything” Dennis says a lot of work is being We’re done to get the course in shape few a doing changes” he says “trying to get it growing in real well But it’s already doing well as is I’ve never seen fairways come m that well for it being that new” The greens are very nice he adds “W e’re going to be doing a little bit of renovation on bunkers though” he says “We’re using new sand and tilings like that to make it a little bit easier on the people and the machinery” DenIn terms of direct promotion nis is preparing to distribute promotional brochures at local motels and businesses to help attract tourists The Delta Area Chamber of Commerce has also been helpful Dennis says New signs will be set up on the east and west end of Della on Highway W'atch for his ai tides on the Progress sports page Dennis says there is something going I I every day at the course “Tentatively” companies or anybody who wants to play Basically we want to get people out here” A golf team has recently been organized at Delta High School Dennis is providing the students with lessons “A lot of them have improved five or 10 strokes already” he says Dennis is also putting together a junior program for all ages for this summer He is renovating and cutting so they down donated clubs to can play to bring to the community art shows from other areas and have a good place to hold 'hem And if people in the communi-like the Cultural Council come up ''unething they feel is worthwhile biting we’ll have a place for it” The gallery now under construction i' located across the hall from the art c'assroom in the southeast wing of the school The design and layout is based on a gallery at a junior college in Plans for that gallery were published in a recent arts magazine W all material will be t pine for a rustic appearance Two partition walls will break up the boxiness of the room and provide additional space Thomas said several tables of different shapes and sizes are being built for displaying sculpture and pottery “VY'e're putting in track lighting and ’he whole nine yards” he said Several faculty members are on the gallery and “quite a number ot students" Thomas said More volunteers are welcome Thomas will provide a barbeque dinner for the public to accompany the festival
