library patrons— the Delta City Library has got a show for you This It’s art exhibit is kind of controversial modern art at it’s best and since there are some who don’t understand this medium it’s a bit confusing There are nine artists using such wood materials as oils photography watercolors metal spray paint hinges etchings and probably several others as well Their techniques vary according to their tastes Some like bold strokes and colors while others enjoy more subdued artistry I read the plaque on the wall and it said “the artists represented in this exhibit are engaged in a profound struggle to give meaning to the present through new aesthetic discoveries” Some of you may not agree to the aesthetic value of these paintings but you may find one you like to look at or prefer over the others There is one I feast on and it is titlI aped Box 1 by David Dornan preciate it for its simplicity and cool colors It gives me a calming feeling when I look at it It has a turquoise band across the top then a white band with a single bluish grey box sitting just off center on top of it There is a strip of black and on the bottom is a stripe of dull blue If you can picture that in your mind you’re doing great This picture is an interesting study to me Sometimes I wonder what my art teacher would say on this painting There would be some theory as to why the artist painted it in this way Another print titled Flowers of the Forest by Susan Carroll took some getting use to The longer that one is up the more I enjoy it I’m not going to mention too many more because I would like you all to come in and see it I would be pleased in hearing your comments as well I’ve heard some of the comments already and they were very interesting This exhibit is at the library until April 14 then it will be removed and taken back to the Gayle Weyher Gallery where it was loaned from The and library is open from pm pm on Sat There are some pictures down the main hall of the city building giving you the opportunity to view them The Delta City Library has the opportunity of giving each of us the knowledge and enjoyment we need as a community if we just take the time I’d like to mention In closing The theme Library Week on April this year is “Take Time to Read” and let this be the “Year of the Reader” In April the library has the goal to reach They want to see if they can get 300 books checked out in one day Come to the library and let’s help them out Let’s read!
