Duane’s son Rex was with his dad when he bagged the trophy He said that after putting the spotting scope on the animal it only took one shot to bring it down with a brand new 270 Weatherby Magnum rifle which Rex had just sold to Duane “I sighted it in and he hadn’t even shot it before he took the antelope” Rex said “I didn’t think Utah had that big of antelope” said Duane “This is the first time I’ve ever drawn out for an antelope permit and it was in the first bunch of antelope we had seen” Rex set up a 60 power spotting scope and told Duane to shoot the third animal on the west side an antelope and which was standing broadside looking up the ridge “1 could see the horns were high and when shot (about 410 steps away) down he went I though there was another larger one in the bunch thought the biggest one had got away I But when we got down there couldn’t believe my eyes We run cattle out there and I’ve seen antelope all the time But I’ve never seen anything like this one” Duane
