counties in Utah raised their local sales tax rates last year and accepted the new method of allocation Of these communities 192 governments realized more money from the new formula allocation than they would have received from the old method of allocation A total of 39 on the other hand received less money under the formula allocation than was generated in the community by the sales and use tax In effect approximately $6 million in local sales tax money collected in these latter communities was redistributed by the formula in the new law to the former communites During fiscal year the local sales the tax collections in Utah totaled about $99 million of the new Largest beneficiaries formula were Salt Lake allocation Provo Sandy Roy ClearCounty field Davis County Weber County North Ogden when Miller attempted open a checking account with a $2500 check from a Florida trucking company After confering with the Florida bank that issued the check and the trucking company it was supposedly issued against it was discovered Miller had stolen several of the Firm’s checks in and was wanted by authorities several states After being alerted to the situation Delta policeman Roger Young and Chief Greg Cooper acted upon an of the man making the deposit and arrested him Tuesday afternoon in Delta However this man turned out to be Wilson who was using Miller's name in an attempt to open the fraudulent accounts Wilson soon lead police to Miller's hideout at a Delta motel OfFicer Young said that Miller will be arraigned Friday in state Circuit Court at Fillmore pavement But because they were anxious to protect the road base the decision to proceed with the paving was made “If we didn’t pave it now we faced the possibility of destroying much of the road base when the spring thaw comes and it all is washed away” Mr Cox said In the meantime a second phase of the project the reconstruction of the Sutherland Bridge on the south end of the road is being let out for construction bids According to Cox the work there will not begin any sooner than mid January 1985 Last week several residents along the Jones Rd met with county planning officials to get the final word on the how the road will affect their property The road is to be designated a high speed commuter road wnh limned cess It is this point that has some Jones Rd landowners concerned since new housing may be limited along the road County Planner Steve Young that the area is zoned plained agriculture and farmers have an already existing right to use the roads regardless of the high speed designation However Young said that since the road will go on the state highway system permission to access it must be secured He outlined four alternatives which are being considered: a paricular number of feet between accesses 2 encourage access on existing crossroads 3 limit the zone so parcels would be larger with greater frontage and 4 frontage roads to major com muter road Emergency assistance available administered through the Six County Commissioners Organization providing funds for emergency food shelter fuel or clothing A documented proof of income and a demonstrated need are required from
