Oasis Ward Burner Explosion Burns Three Men and A Boy Tuesday Evening; 2 Hospitalized Four area residents suffered painful to severe burns Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. at the -Madge Johnson farm, operated by James (Jim) Nickle. Hospitalized with first, second, and third degree burns about the face, neck, ears, hands and arms are Jim Nickle and Roger Johnson, 9-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Johnson. Jeffery, received re-ceived his Eagle Scout Award at a special Court of Honor held in the Delta First Ward on Tuesday. June 9th. David, age 15, is a member of the Order of the Arrow, which is an honorary organixation of outstanding out-standing scouts and scouters. He has been an ou' standing leader of Troop 143, Delta Third Ward and is now serving as Senior Patrol Pat-rol Leader. David received his 35th Merit Badge at the Court of Honor and becomes the 3rd son in his family to receive this outstanding out-standing award. Attending the Court of Honor K Vfei. rr;v "SERVING i Volume 54 Number 52 LESLIE DIEHL . . Hinckley Town and later released were Mr. Johnson John-son and Gene Chatman, who works for Mr. Nickle. The four were burned when Mr. Nickle was cleaning his propane' gas weed burner. Mr. Nickle would I turn a jet on, clean it and turn it off. Each time this was done gas would escape and settle down a-round a-round the ground and weeds. When ' all the jets were cleaned Mr. Nickle struck a match to light the burner. The escaped gas exploded and the flames enveloped the four. Area covered by the fife was a 90 ft. diameter. Lawrence S. Mitchell re turned to his home in San Bernardino, after spending several days with his parents. par-ents. He came Sunday evening as a surprise to his folks. It has been two years since he was here. His father, Cleveland Mitchell, has been in poor health these past few months. Lawrence will be here a-gain a-gain the last of August, when he children are out of summer school. were scouts and parents from Delta 1st Ward. Delta 2nd Ward. Delta 3rd Ward and Oasis Ward. One Tenderfoot Award was presented pre-sented along with six Second Class, six First Class, eight Star Badges and 64 Merit Badges. Also of special note was the awarding of two adult Scouter Awcrds. The Scouters Key was awarded to J. Thurman Moody. District Commissioner and Cub Scout Leader. The Scouters A-ward A-ward was presented to Arjaan D e k k e r. District Advancement Chairman. The local auxiliary unit rece'ved honorable mention for this year's Americanism American-ism program and received a cash award of SI 5.00 for being the 1st unit in the state to reach the 1965 membership quota. SupU Wright Resigns, Asks Priucipalship In a special meeting of the Board of Education of the Millard County School District held Saturday evening, even-ing, June 20, Supt. Golden Wright requested that his services as superintendent sup-erintendent be terminated and that he be assigned to the Principalship of the Millard High School, a position po-sition which is now open. He requested re-quested that the effective date for the termination of his duties as superintendent be sixty days from the date of the meeting, or August 20, 1964. The Board of Education approved the request of the superintendent reluctantly and expressed their appreciation ap-preciation for the services he had rendered as superintendent in the district. He has occupied this position posi-tion since 1953. Register How for Swimmings Lessons All parents interested in having their children take swimming lessons les-sons can register them Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27, after 1:00 p.m. or Monday, June 29 or Tuesday, Tues-day, June 30 after 10:30 a.m. at the swimming pool. Lessons will be given three days a week as was done last year. Monday, Mon-day, Wednesday and Friday for group one and Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for group two. Parents Par-ents may choose which group they wish to have their children in. The course will consist of 12 lessons les-sons over a four week period at a cost of 25 cents a lesson or $3.00 in all. The length of each lesson will be 35 to 40 minutes; given between be-tween 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Those who had lessons last year will begin where they left off and will go on to the next course. New students, however, will be classifie and put into groups of equal skill. Check with Bob Horlacher at the pool for further information. MR. AND MRS.
