Show PROMINENT BEHAN SUCCUMBS after LINGERING ILLNESS mahonra M steele ji died at his home in delta monday from heart trouble and other ailments at the age of sixty seven he bad had been in poor health for some time hon steele was born in boquer ville february 2 1870 a son of al al and emily bunker steele the family moved to panguitch where hon lion at the age of eighteen became a school teacher on october 2 1889 he married charlotte lefever he ile waa was county recorder lour four years and county clerk six years chief clerk of the utah legislature in 1901 and U S Post postoffice office inspector tor for eight years he ile lad 1 ad resided in millard county tor for about twenty five years and was largely instrumental in getting the present court house in fillmore e reeled and an extensive system of roads over ever the county he ile is survived by his widow and twelve children mrs airs fern henrie of panguitch mrs abb e prestwich of delta doyle and mrs irene raw linson also of delta mrs falmetta Fay metta prows and mrs itha alstrom both of kanosh arthello steele modena mrs llla lila judd provo mrs wanda cox cedar city the surviving brothers and sisters are mis cassie cassle hiding riding james and john E steele ot of delta mrs mary marshall and parley steele of pan gultch joseph steele ironton idaho and mrs emily jensen california there are forty five grandchildren and 16 great grand children hon ilon steele was widely known at one time he practiced law ati at an other he ile ran a newspaper his ready wit genial character and knowledge of men made him invaluable as a re tory of the past in all its phases his ills command of english was mon as an orator he was often in demand he named the grand central highway from delta to ely and worked hard in putting it thru well read gifted his power was es specially pec lally ally felt in politics in which he took an active part in later years year he spent hia his time in developing min es the passing of M M steele jr Is mourned by a large circle of close friends the chronicle joins with the community spirit in sympathy to the sorrowing family run ueral services were held at the delta first ward chapel under the dl lection of bishop A E stephenson the speakers were wm win N gardner who gave a tribute of a friendship of twenty five years standing mrs ellza eliza hook read the career of the de parted tor for the D U P bishop george R jackson and bishop alonzo hunts man of sutherland and kanosh re ively interman In termen was hald in tha the delta cemetery |
