Show Oldest County Resident Dies At Scipio Home Jesse Bigler Martin, 99, county pioneer and oldest resident of the area, died Saturday morning at the home of his son, Cecil Martin in Scipio. He was born in Salt Lake City Nov. 19, 1849, a son of Jesse B and Sophronia Moore Martin, Utah pioneers. When he was 14, the family moved to Round valley, now known as Scipio, where the father was sent by Brigham Young to colonize and preside. Mr. Martin was a farmer and livestock raiser and was first marshal of Scipio. He was active in many L. D. S. organizations. Until two -weeks before his death he read with out the aid of eye glasses, and enjoyed, enjoy-ed, visits of friends and neighbors. He was married in 1883 to Martha Ann Johnson, who died in 1925. Six children survive: Jesse Martin, Mar-tin, Blackfoot, Idaho; Mrs. Eunice Cornell, Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Myra Bone, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Nora Ivie, Wesley Martin and Cecil Martin, Mar-tin, Scipio; 34 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild; three sisters, Mrs Matilda Vance, Provo; Mrs. Zina Adams and Mrs. Merget Boyse, Salt Lake City. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Scipio, honoring honor-ing the aged pioneer and valued resident. Burial was in the Scipio cemetery. |
