J Ashby Melvin Ashby vas was vas born in Learn Learn- ington Utah on Sept 30 1913 i ison a ason son of Jean and Nathaniel Ashby He died at the home of his parents parents parents par par- on Dec 29 following an illness of two months Funeral service services were held In Leamington on Dec 31 under the direction of Bisho Bishop Bradfield and interment was i ithe ii in inthe the Evergreen cemetery at Spring Spring- ville yule Melvin Ashby attended the Leamington Leamington Leam Learn ington district school and later th thE the Delta high school After his grad grad- graduation graduation here he spent two years a at al at the A. A C. C at Logan and then the went vent to the B. B Y U. U where h he hc graduated and was awarded r a scholarship to the University o ol of Washington from the B. B Y U. U H He left there to go to Oakley Idaho where he accepted a teaching position po po- titian in the commercial department department depart depart- ment of the high school He had hac taught there three years and was wa teaching there this fall when il ill health caused him to resign in Oc Oc- Oc- Oc tober Lober He and his family had cometo come com cometo to Leamington where he hoped t to recover when his death occurred He was always active in church affairs and while living in Oakley Oakley Oak Oak- ley Icy he was appointed a counselor counsel counsel- or r to the presidency of the stake M. M I. I I. I A. A He had attained an Eagle Scout award in the council and also served at a Scout leader eader in Oakley He was married to 0 Miss Helen Clark a daughter o of President resident Charles Clark of Oakley Idaho who survived him and al also alo also al- al so o one daughter Tamara age aged eight ight months He Is also survived by his parents and four sisters Mrs Lola Thompson of Lynndyl Mrs Irs Alpha Nielson of Leamington Learning Learning- ton on Mrs Vera Watts and Mrs Jua Julia Julia Ju Ju- Ju- Ju lia a Cherington of Springville am and andhree three brothers Evan Ashby of Salt Sal Lake ake City and Noland and Ralph Ashby of Los Angeles |
