Show B. P. Crafts Dies Tuesday; hnml Services Friday Bayard Percy Crafts, 79, farmer and stockman, and resident of Desert for the past 70 years, died early Tuesday, January 4, at the home 'of a son, Ralph Crafts, in Hinckley. B. P. Crafts was born at Cedar Fork, Utah, May 2, 1869, a son of Mr. and Mrs. David King Crafts. The family moved to Deseret when he was 9 years old, and he had lived there since. He was married December 10, 1891 to Martha Elizabeth Hales at Deseret. They took their endowment endow-ment in the Salt Lake temple on June 13, 1900. Mrs. Crafts died in November of 1917. A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mr. Crafts served many years in church activities. He was a counselor coun-selor to Bishop A. W. Sorenson for several years, and president of one of the elders quorums. He was especially active as a member of the building committe of the new ward chapel in Deseret, and helped in every way in the erection of that building. Mr. Crafts had charge of the rebuilding the the Deseret cemetery, ceme-tery, which has become one of the finest in West Millard. The work there included hauling in much soil to raise the level of the area, and then it was landscaped, with Mr. Crafts serving diligently until completion. His influence was felt in civic affairs, where he had long and unselfishly served in projects that contributed to the growth and the betterment of the community. For several years he was a director of the Deseret Irrigation company and he was one of the supervisors of Drainage District No. 2. He worked on the committee for improvements at Deseret. . Mr. Crafts was a successful farmer, farm-er, after the struggles of the early years were paseed. As a friend, a neighbor and a fellow-citizen he was held in high esteem. Surviving are six: sons and two daughters, Dudley and Reed Crafts of Delta; Charles and Ralph Crafts of Hinckley; William Crafts of Deseret; Des-eret; Marion Crafts, Ruth. Nevada. The daughters are Mrs. Many Boender, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Mrs. Mabel Olson, Provo; one brother, Frank Crafts, Mesa, Ari- zona; and one sister, Mrs. Mamie Hales, Cedar Fork, Utah; 29 grandchildren grand-children and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Deseret ward chapel, Bishop Ormus Dutson officiating. Burial will be in the Deseret cemetery under the direction direc-tion of L. N. Nickle and Sons. |
