Show Former Resident Of Milford Dies At CalienteHome A wire was received Friday by Mrs. Lee Gray from Mary Roper of Caliente, stating that the lat-ter's lat-ter's mother, a former resident of Milford, had passed away that morning. Tuesday morning Miss Roper and her sister, Mrs. Wayne Banning, passed through Milford, accompanying the remains of their mother . to Manhattan, Kansas, where interment was to take place. D. R. Roper, husband of the deceased, de-ceased, died in Milford in September, Septem-ber, 1930, and was buried in Manhattan, Man-hattan, the home town of the Ropers, Rop-ers, soon after Mary was trans- , ferred to Caliente as chief clerk to the foreman of the Union Pacific Pa-cific railroad, Mary and her mother mo-ther making Caliente their home since tbat time. Mrs. Roper had been bedfast most of the time since last Aug- I ust, when she suffered a paralytic stroke. In October her doctor at Caliente thought her able to be moved to California for the winter. win-ter. Accordingly, Mary and her sister, Mrs. Banning, took her to Glendale, to the home of the latter. lat-ter. There Mrs. Roper appeared to improve for some time but finally fin-ally the heart could stand the strain no longer and she passed peacefully to her reward December Decem-ber 23. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Roper, with their daughters, Mary and Nora, came to Milford from Kansas in March, 1911 and purchased a home in town in addition to some of the dry farm land north of town. Mr. Roper followed farming for several years until his health permitted him to do so no longer. The family fam-ily were members of the M. E. church and always were active and loyal in every department of the organization. They were splendid citizens and community workers in every respect. Mrs. Roper was 77 years of age and of a kind, retiring nature, lovingly known among the younger folks as "Grandma Roper." The wonderful devotion given her so cheerfully by Mary was admired by all who were privileged to have been around them. The last three months this care and devotion had been shared with Mrs. Banning, who came from Glendale and remained re-mained with them and helped to take their mother to her home. Mrs. Roper is survived by two sons and four (laughters, Mary of Caliente, Cali-ente, Mrs. Nora Banning of Glendale, Glen-dale, California; John Roper of N'orth Carolina and the others residing re-siding in the vicinity of their old home in Kansas. The many friends in Milford and Caliente who knew this very fine family join in loving sympathy. |
