Show I JACOB TANNER ; DIES IN BEAVER ' Jacob Thomas Tanner, 81, prominent church and civic leader, died at his home in Beav- er last Thursday, July 10th. of v causes incident to age. Mr. Tanner was born May 6, 1871, in Ho'den, a son of Ebe-nezer Ebe-nezer and Mary Ann Bigler Tanner. The family moved to Milford, and Mr. Tanner settled in Beaver in 1906. He married Jennie Gray in the Salt Lake L D S Temple Feb. 14, 1895. They were di- vorced a few years later. He married Sarah Jane Griffiths, Grif-fiths, March 9, 1899, in the St. George L D S Temple. At the time of his death Mr. Tanner had completed 33 years of ward teaching for the L D S Church. He served a mission j to the Southern States about ; 1890. After his return he served ; as superintendent of Sunday Schools in Milford and became bishop of the Milford Ward in 1904. 1 He served 19 years as counselor coun-selor in the Beaver LDS Stake ' Presidency and served for many years as president of the High Priest quorum of his ward. Mr. Tanner pioneered in the mercantile business both in Milford Mil-ford and in Beaver. He operated a meat market and grocery store in Beaver and for many years ' was a leading livestock man of the county. He had also served as justice of the peace, city marshal, mar-shal, and game warden. He is survived by his widow, Beaver; seven sons and daughters: daugh-ters: J. Carlyle Tanner, Spring-dale; Spring-dale; Elmo Tanner, Oxnard, Cal.; Clinton Tanner, Fillmore, Cal.; Deloy Tanner, Tooele; Arlo Tanner, Tan-ner, with the U S Navy in Japan; Ja-pan; Mrs. Ha Faux, Moroni; and Mrs. Vera Hamilton, Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; five broth-erg broth-erg and sisters; Ebenezer Tanner Jr . Canooga Park Cal.; David A, Tanner, Milford; Abner Tanner, Tan-ner, Provo; Mrs. LaVern Ellison, Elli-son, Nephi, and Mrs. Flora Winn, Preston, Idaho. |
