Show Fighting Team Holds Fillmore To Even Break LOCAL SQUAD AND FILLMORE LOCK HORNS IN 00 TIE A fighting' Milford high school football team met the squad of Millard Mil-lard County high, of Fillmore, on the local field last Friday and held the visitors to an 0 to 0 score. Coach Pollard's team had sustained a crushing crush-ing defeat at Delta the week previously previ-ously and this trouncing seemed to have brought beneficial results. The hard tackling of the local boys was pleasing to the fairly large crowd which came out to see the blue and white team perform. The defense of the home team was much better than its offense. Men running interference interfer-ence seemed to crowd each other and the backfield was too slow to tear off much yardage around the ends. , A line-bucking game was employed j much of the time. No first downs were registered in the first quarter. The ball was in Milford's territory throughout. Milford Mil-ford was placed in a rather dangerous position by failing to kick on the f fourth down with th ball d""p in their own territory. The visitors worked the ball down to the fifteen-yard line in the second frame by a series of short end smashes. smash-es. T he gun at the half saved Milford Mil-ford from what looked to be a sure touch-down. Banks got away once for the locals, breaking through the line for a fifteen-yard gain. Again Milford Mil-ford lost much ground by not electing to punt out of danger on fourth downs. At the start of the second half, Milford kicked to the goal line and downed the Fillmoreite on his ten-yard ten-yard line. A. bad punt gave Milford p. chance once but a fumble in mid-field mid-field followed soon after, putting Fillmore out of danger. The visitors started a brilliant drive in the last quarter and began throwing passes in a desperate attempt at-tempt to score. One of these was completed for a long gain. Cook soon intercepted one of the throws and raced about forty yards, almost getting get-ting away for a touchdown. The final gun ended the game with Milford in possession of the ball in Fillmore's j territory. I Each team attempted about throe passes. Only one was completed ami one was intercepted. The game, while hard fought throughout, was one of the cleanest played that we .have ever seen. But one penalty was inflicted, that being on Milford late in the game for a technicality. The dogged defense of the Milford line was a source of satisfaction to local fans, with Horace Palmer constantly piling up the plays directed his way. Juies and Banks in the back-field gained most of the yardage annexed by the locals. |
