Show SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER SUGGESTS POSSIBILITY OF NEED OF CHARITY SAYS THAT MANY SCHOOL CHILDREN ARE IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION QUESTION HOW TO PAY COST ( The possibility of u situation arising aris-ing which will call for charitable support sup-port financially was mentioned by school board member Henry Row-man, Row-man, speaking this week before the Lions Club. The situation deals with our schools, wherein a (treat number of children have been found to have physical handicaps, remedial only through small surgical operations. Doctors of the county have agreed with the school board to take care of such work at half cost. Mr. Bowman thought that from what the survey of our schools shows at present, it may be possible that there wdl be so many parents unable to pay for ' this work that much of the work will '.e left unattended to. He said that ; in the school board budget for 192;1. ' this contingency was unexpected and unprovided for. All funds in the lied Cross will be devoted to taking care of worthy cases where the parent.-could parent.-could not afford to. He expected to ask some aid from the county commissioners com-missioners and asked the consideration considera-tion of the Lions Club in the matter. Opinions differed, with Jos. R. Mur-dock Mur-dock suggesting that it was a worthy Lions Club cause and mentioned a dance to raise funds for sucii a pur-I- - pose. Sam Cline, L. Bain and resi dent L. G. Clay spoke, saying that they did not feel that it was within the province of the club. The reasons given were that Beaver County had a favorable record of a few indigents and that there was an in '.igc-'.t fund for such a purpose, that only a few-persons few-persons could not afford this duty to their children, and that the duty, particularly if whole classes were held back by handicapped children, lay with the taxpayers. Dr. Parrish spoke briefly of the results re-sults of physical examinations giver by him, Dr. Hunter and Miss Peck, corroborating Mr. Bowman's statements state-ments of the possible gravity of the . - situation. The meeting was held at the Mil-ford Mil-ford Hotel, at which Mrs. Lena Mc-Garry Mc-Garry graciously lended her aid by a 1 eautiful vocal solo, accompanied by Miss Gwendoyln Smith at the piano. o |
