Show Letters (Editors Note: This letter was written and received before the tentative agreement was achieved betwen unions and Kennecott.) Dear Editor: I have been reading the strike editorials in your paper the past few weeks with mixed feelings interest, amusement, and sometimes resentment. It is my hope that this strike has lasted long long enough that enough when another contract ends and the time comes to vote again the men will look back and consider whether it is worth it to vote away their rights to work, their rights to bargain, and leave it up to a few people who are more interested in union power than they are in the workers welfare. Why do Kennecott workers who consider themselves to be of average or better intelligence continue to give these rights to others, then sit back and cry because they are out of work, tneir families are being deprived of their living, and the company and unions are treating them unfairly. They have lost all sight and of barcollective meaning gaining and have submitted to selective bargaining because they lack the initiative or confidence to think and act for themselves. If we are going to have these- strikes every year, - lets place some of the blame where it belongs. If the workers are going to the polls and vote themselves out of work, then why do they and their wives cry about it? Disgusted -- L- Dear Editor: The first summer I worked for the Forest Service was in 1943 and my crew foreman and fire boss were both who had worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps until the year before. There began an interest in the CCC tl:at has lasted to the present day. Now I'm trying to complete my education at Brigham Young University by writing a doctoral dissertation on the history of the CCC in Utah. Most facts and figures I can get from statistical reports, but I'm interested in accounts from personal those that were involved either as CCC workers themselves, interested townspeople, girl friends, parents, or anyone else having any connection with the organization. I hope to learn (1) what impact the CCC had on Utah physically, financially, morally, etc.; (2) what impact the CCC had on the .nen and (3) what impact Utah had on the CCC. Was it as good as we generally think or wasn't it? Anyone willing to help me by answering some questions would be most appreciated. I'll gladly send a questionnaire to anyone contacting me at 863 South University,' Provo, Utah 84601 or Like the phone banks, I pay postage both ilfii y .- February . Our nation is not immune to wrong leading. We are not going to be "protected" unless our government protects us from a "one world" take over. They are not fooling and they are winning so far. This is probably the last election we can have a voice in unless we get some people who will change our course. Virginia B. Peterson AUTOMATIC HERB TOWERS MURRAY QM " like to riake people more aware of some conservation problems, the Jordan River, Little Cottonwood Creek, and Big Cottonwood Creek below State St. The Jordan River used to be a clean river, but through the years the small towns have put their sewage and trash in it. Only recently has any concern been shown. All towns are working on the installation and building of sewer treatment plants. It has lately been dredged under Gov. Ramp-ton'- s direction. We think that Gov. Rampton is doing a fine job, and under his further direction this problem might be overcome. People enjoy picnicking in Little Cottonwood Canyon, but the problem is, they throw their litter in the creek. People should throw their trash and litter in the cans provided by the government. A local business is running soapsuds and waste into Big Cottonwood Creek State St. It makes it impossible for fish to live there; when they are planted, they die. We feel something should and could be done about this.
