Show Thursday, February 11, 1999 Messenger-Enterpris- Page 7 e Hogle Zoo Traveling Art Exhibit at Ephraim Elementary World of the Wild: Annual Hogle Zoo Art Exhibition a traveling exhibition will be exhibited at Ephraim Elementary School from February 9 to March 2. The World of the Wild is the .annual art show sponsored by Utahs Hogle Zoo featuring an attempt to gain power over their hunt. These paintings can still be seen in Lascaux, France; Altamira, Spain; Africa; and Australia. Fremont and Anasazi Indians of Utah also drew animal images as a form of spiritual empowerment. The ancient Egyptians drew and modeled animals with great care based upon the observation of nature. Today, art classes are often seen at the Zoo painting and drawing from life. Animals are difficult models and present challenges to the artists. The Traveling Exhibition Program is a statewide outreach ser ks of animals and the wild. The this exhibition is to bring of goal .together the works of serious artists who are interested in displaying their view of the wild animals, plants, and places with which we share our world. The art of depicting animals is an ancient one. Prehistoric men depicted animals on cave walls in vice of the Utah Arts Council. The program provides schools, museums, libraries and galleries throughout the state with a variety of exhibitions. The purpose of the program is to provide access to an array of visual arts, nurture the understanding of diverse art forms and cultures and encourage cultural activities in local commu- ' 542 vary. Unfortunately, Utah has one of the lowest child restraint usage rates Tin the country. The Utah Safety Councils Buckle Up For Love program is 'v V working to encourage more families to buckle up. Many companies, schools, hospitals, doctors offices, health departments and individuals participate in this program by sending in license plate numbers of moving vehicles they observe with unrestrained children on board. Buckle Up For Love is a purely educational program. No law enforcement is notified of the report. The Safety Council then sends information and resource materials in order to help individuals ensure that everyone in their car is restrained properly every time they ride in the car. During 1998, over 3,000 people received this information.
