Citizens Observation Patrol benefits city This is to inform the Manti City citizens of the Citizens Observation Patrol (COP), and the functions and services that it renders to the citizens of Manti. The COP is a volunteer citizen organization that supports the Sanpete County Sheriffs Department as a deterrent to crime. Members serve as the eyes and ears of the Sheriffs Department in reporting suspicious situations and illegal activities in and around Manti. The COP has been operating for over a year with county statistics showing a 10 decrease in crime in Manti. The goals of the patrol members are to help in providing safe a community, free of criminal activity, drugs and graffiti. Patrol members do not have police powers; however, they get descriptions of people and vehicles, license plate numbers and record illegal or suspicious activities and report to the sheriff s office via cellular phones or hand-hel- d radios. A is veteran held for and memnew monthly training meeting bers with the COP supervisor and the county sheriff doing training and keeping the members informed. The COP members must be trained before they are allowed to go on patrol. The Manti City Council gives full support to the Citizens Observation Patrol and to the men and women who volunteer and make sacrifices to help keep Manti safe. We extend to the COP members a genuine Thank You from the Mayor and City Council for a job well done. We are recruiting new members for the COP.
