Show PAGE 3 TEMPLAR TRUMPET Sandy and Pete dolls leave Manti High after losing game to No. Sanpete Hawks By Amy Braithwaite It was with deep sorrow that the Pete and Sandy dolls left the halls of M.H.S. on January 3rd for what we hope to be a temporary stay at North Sanpete High School. The forced departure by Principal Courtney Syme was the result of the Hawks December 27th victory over the Manti Templars. Prior to that, Pete and Sandy had been happily residing at M.H.S. for over six years. Principal Jim Petersen and Coach Mark Hugentobler say that they exMr. Petersen and Mr. Wheeler hand over Sandy and Pete pect Pete and Sandy to return to dolls to North Sanpete Manti as the Templars declare victory over the North Sanpete Hawks next winter. Translation of above article To be a latin in Utah is dificult, especially during the Christmas Holidays due to the fact that in our culture we celebrate it different than those around here. In Mexico we celebrate Christmas differently. First of all we begin our celebration with the Posadas which last 9 days from the 16th to the 24th of December. The Posadas are a way to symbolically represent the time that Joseph and Mary asked for food and raiment before the birth of Jesus. This is demonstrated in Mexico with a couple who go visit three different houses to ask. for raiment. In the first two houses they don't receive any food or raiment, but in the third one they do. Upon arrival at this third house they say the Rosary prayer and share sweets, or chocolate with bread for every ; one that is there. This goes on for the 9 days until the 24th of December when the family ex- changes gifts at midnight. In Mexico we do not believe in Santa Claus, we believe in the Three Kings, whose names are Melchiar, Gaspar and Balthasar. The 6th of January is w hen we celebrate this holiday in which they visited the Christ Child. The children receive one gift similar to how you celebrate Christmas here. The majority of the Mexican families that live here travel to Mexico during the holidays to visit their families and to spend these times together also celebrating the New Year. While here in the United States we celebrate the holidays like those that are from here because we have also adopted the beliefs of the local culture and traditions. The highest temperature ever recorded In the U.S. was 134 degrees Fahrenheit at Greenland Ranch, Death Valley, California on July 10, 1913. , |
