Since the Sanpete Valley Hospital Health Fair and OK is only two weeks away, I encourage everyone to get out and have some fun walking on a nice firm surface. Enduring to the end has some nice d rewards both physically and for the prizes. How hard is it to go 10K? Well, that distance is about 6.2 miles. Depending on the road surface and slope, the distance can be quite pleasurable. This years 10K will be on the Old Pigeon Road all downhill to the finish line. (Unless it rains or snows, then the race will be on Highway 89 from Temple Iill to Snow College). During the recent Utah Press Association Winter Convention, Kelly and I went on an endurance hike of sorts. We went up Snow Canyon to see the sights while most of the group was either shopping or golfing. We decided on a hike to Three the State Parks guide marked the trail as moderate to Ponds; strenuous. About 300 yards along the trail, we found ourselves climbing over some pretty large boulders. thought to myself, Im going to have to get back over these I wonder how Im going to do that? Life for me is a lot like a line from the movie look; I have a real problem with heights. But on this day, I was going to push myself past my fears and climb those rocks anyway. Kelly found this amazing cave along the Hidden Pinion Trail (on the way to the Three Ponds). didnt mind looking in it, but climbing in it was a different story. Along with being in a cave that looked a little unstable, it was high up on a cliff. The physical sensation of having a long dropoff is one that I have never really enjoyed. The next length of the walk would test my endurance much more than I had expected. The Hidden Ponds Trail is not marked strenuous because ofclimbing difficulty. It is strenuous because three miles of the round trip has a surface of loose fine sand, with no firm base underneath. Its not a problem if you happen to be riding a horse, and the horse has to do all the work. But you can really feel the burn after ten minutes of walking in this stuff. I managed to finish the entire distance without Keliy having to carry me out. I even climbed back over those boulders myself. Thanks to a soak in a hot tub and some aspirin afterwards, I wasn't too stiff and sore. And the best part was that, aside from a few sore muscles, I felt great! OK too far? Not if ypu think of it as a walk through some its here in pretty scenery you havent really noticed before back own your yard. 7-- 1 13-1- 0 Rangely, Colo, to battle CNCC in a twin-dibefore returning home p, to host UVSC on Saturday in Ephraim.
