Show i Former Manager Of Airport Killed In n Plane Crash Samuel K Eck 44 former manager of the Manti Ephraim airport was killed tilled in a plane crash at the Loa- Loa Lyman airport about 4 miles southeast of Loa in Wayne county about five o'clock Sunday Mr Eck reportedly had been taking passengers up for short flights and was just taking off with Mrs Erma Chappell 32 as a passenger when the light plane crashed when the motor motor motor mo mo- mo- mo tor apparently failed The plane was badly smashed and both occupants died as rescuers attempted to extricate them from the wreckage Both victims victims vic vie tims reportedly suffered compound fractures of both legs and of the back and Mrs Chappell received severe internal injuries Mr Eck was a native of American Fork and served as a flight instructor in the army during World War II He Heat Heat Heat at one time operated the Nephi Mt Pleasant and the Manti-Ephraim Manti airports airports airports air air- ports and opened up the local airport after it became rather run-down run during during during dur dur- ing the war He and family lived first at lat Nephi and then at Mt Pleasant during the two years he operated the Manti-Ephraim Manti airport up until last I April Mr Eck had hoped to see the the completion completion com corn of a splendid airport and lodge in Wayne county to help open pen up that wonderland to tourists He had envisioned envisioned envisioned the Mt Pleasant Manti Eph raim Salina-Gunnison Salina Richfield Loa- Loa Lyman and Blanding airports all being be being being be- be ing interconnected as a means of bringing tourists down this way and to the Wayne wonderland and on to San Juan He conducted a flying school at the local airport during the two years he operated it and taught several Manti ManU and Ephraim citizens ns how to fly Mr Eck is survived by his parents of American Fork by his widow Maurine Mcl Iatt Eck an expectant mother a son Samuel K Eck Jr 3 a daughter Sharon Ec Eck 18 months old Mrs Eck and the children had gone to Greenville Texas about a month ago about the time the family home was changed from Mt Pleasant to Blanding Mr Ecks Eck's body was sent to Greenville for burial Mrs Chappell was the wife of Bishop Bishop Bishop Bish Bish- op Lloyd Chappell of the Lyman ward She is survived by her husband two sons and a daughter and seven brothers brothers brothers bro bro- and sisters 1 n |
