Show I I 4 The Magna TimesWest Valley News, Thursday, March 9, 2000 Montoya boxers have strong showing in two recent tournaments in Salt Lake, Rock Springs, Wyoming "More and more these days I find myself pondering on how to reconcile my net income with my gross game schedule." Book of Hag As a devoted member of the Crimson Club, I get many so called benefits. Lately, vshile counting my blessings, I have been wonder- ing about canceling my club membership. I booster or fisc hundred per annum, those great benefactors on the hill, allow me to purchase tickets for football and basketball; nice guys, h If don't send in the five hundred extra, my tickets will be sold to some other fan fan with more money. I have been funncling money into the athletic department at my alma mater for 40 years. 1 figure it costs about two grand a year plus popcorn and hot dogs. Is that any way to treat a booster? I suffered through football under 1 Bill Meek, Tom Lout, Mike Giddings, and Wayne Howard. I watched bad basketball through the Pimm and Archibald regimes. I paid my dues every month. When the new football stadium was built, they promoted me from row 29 to row 46. "Not enough contributions." they said. It was okay. I bought some high powered field glasses ($200.00). I smuggled in peanuts all those years, too. I have been a season ticket holder for many years. I am still unable to get two seats together. Finally, they were able to seat me in row 2, one seat behind the other. Its okay except I sometimes get crumbs in my wifes hair, when we pass the popcorn. One day I was glancing through the classifieds; section 055. I saw an ad from the Ticket Lady. She promised tickets to any event; anytime; any place. "No such thing as a sellout, the ad said. I carefully dialed the 800 number. It was true. She had them all-fa price. I couldn't afford her tamfs, but she turned me on to the scalpers. I quickly sold all the rest of my season tickets and began to plan how to invest next years dues. Now, when I go to games, 1 buy from the scalpers. Think of the advantages. I dont have to pay the booster dues (saves me $500). I dont have to watch Chicago State, Wisconsin-Gree- n Bay, and Sloney Brook. I save that money ($90 for six tickets). Thats $90 I can use on scalper tickets. When I buy from scalpers, or the Ticket Lady, I get great seats. Row four, row seven; seats like that. I only go to the best games. Fewer games means less money. Do the math. Want me to introduce you to the Ticket Lady? SIMONS SAYS: "The Utah Booster Club havent got me two seats together for ten years. The scalpers can do it every time. SIMONS SAYS: "The Mountain View girls basketball team wins their games by skill and Guess they recruiting. didnt recruit well enough in Kearns.
