Many authorities hold the opinion that the true figure would lie closer to three percent than fifteen percent. If variations and degrees of hyperactivity could be effectively measured by a behavior assessment system, child care workers, physicians, and medical researchers would be able to do a better job of finding, studying, and treating these children. There are six characteristics usually associated in a child fa whom teachers apply the label, hyperactive." e attention to one These are called "frenetic" play setting, then rapid movement to something else) ; play that forces caretakers to intervene; nomadic or roaming play; spilling and throwing; inability to delay gratification, and emotional aggres (over-intens- sion. The main thing, the researcheis say, is that they have now reached a point at which they can begin to adequately measure and assess hyperactivity. Extensive studies are being made to find out more about in children and how to treat it. This research is of especial importance because hyperactivity overshadows other clinical or health problems in preschool-ag- e children in frequency. Adequate identification and treatment programs will not only be important in helping these children at this particular early stage in their lives, but also in the possible prevention of emotional disorders or difficulties that might come later on if they have no early help. ductor, Kennecott Copper for y LENNOX-- Corp., in 1950. 48 everyday equipment for this clinic.
