Show Pag December Times-Thursda- 3 ports School news: 9 1982 erendipity WEBSTER ELEMENTARY In the last two weeks Webster has been visited by several guests. Officer Friendly came to speak with the primary grades on the subject of safety. Ranger Ted came by with the slides of Yellowstone Park and spoke with classes separately about conservation, wildlife, and being a national park. by Dale Simons LEADERSHIP "We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long, we are nowgratified to do anything with nothing. Author unknown noticeable need in the do, and great you go you everything Everywhere is leadership. It doesn't matter what the field of endeavor, the greatest need in the world is leadership. Whenever there is a lack of leadership, the program suffers and often fails completely. In athletics good leadership is an absolute must if good results are desired. We cannot have The blind leading the blind, if victory is our goal and success is part of our formula. As it is written, How shall they learn without a teacher? The coach is a leader and teacher of men and his leadership will show up in the game day performance and also in the won and lost record. The need for leadership cries out from every sector of the world and from all of our most noble institutions. Where do we get all of these needed leaders? How shall they be known? What is their destiny? Its a simple thing that goes like this: If you want a good scout troop, you must have a good scoutmaster. If you want a good home you must have good parents, and, if you wish for a good team you should start with a good coach. You cannot say, Follow thou; me if you dont know where you're going. Good leadership demands knowledge, understanding, personality and direction. A good coach knows were hes going and how to get there. He cannot teach what he doesnt know cause thats like coming from where you aint been. You cannot lead like the overweight scoutmaster who fell behind his troop on a hike. When he was trying to catch up and came upon a stranger while panting up the hill, he said, Have you seen some scouts? Im their leader. Sometimes leadership may come from within the ranks of the players. A captain or another player will inspire his fellows by word or by action and his mentor may be heard to say, He is just like having a coach on the field. However, since players of this calibre, are few and far between, dont count on their leadership. The coach himself, in most instances, must provide the inspiration to carry his team to whatever successes they may achieve. Simon Says: Moses was my favorite biblical leader. He led his team out of the wilderness and troubled waters. Maybe he could do it for your favorite team. Also to extend students appreciation of wildlife, Hogle Zoo sent out their zoo mobile and docents went from room to room presenting to the students many creatures great and small. The student council elections were held, naming the follow ing students as representatives. President Connie There will be times when your body will ache and hurt. Muscle fatigue will become painful and you will fight for every breath you take. Your legs will become weak and quivery , much like a fresh bowl of jello. You will sweat profusely and your bodys cooling system will be strained to the limit. At times your vision will be blurred and the lights will dim for a few moments. Your heart will feel like a sledge hammer as it responds to the oxygen demands of your muscles. This is the girls third year of par-- t idpation in the Festival of Trees. The name of this years tree was Brownie Magic. The color scheme of the tree was pink, white and tan. The ornaments were pomanders tied with pink and white dotted ribbon. In addition to the Pomanders the girls decorated the tops of pine cones and braided butterflies. The pink and white ribbon was used in these ornaments. The tree skirt was red and pink calico with eyelet trim. The Brownies made a field trip to the Salt Palace to finish decorating the tree. Beneath the tree the Brownies placed packages wrapped in white paper and decorated them with pine cones. In addition to the packages the girls placed candles on nut and pine cone bases. The candles were made by Jammie and Jessica Brow and their mom.
