Show u AT THE LYRIC . THEATER TONIGHT , In spite of the fact that the art of makeup will deceive even the searching lens of tho motion picture camera. Director Emlle Chautard is determined that local color in the first Paramount picture with LIna Cavallerl as the star shall be absolutely abso-lutely perfect, and for that reason has engaged a large number of Italian Ital-ian people to iuterpret tho extra roles. The scenes of "Tho Eternal Temptress," Temp-tress," which will bring Mine. Cavallerl Cava-llerl to the screen, and which was written expressly for the beautiful operatic favorite by Mine, Fred de Gresac, and adapted by Evo Unsell, are all laid in Italy. Besides tho familiar Grand Canal of Venice, the Bridge of Sighs and tho quays of Home, the Famous Church of San Marco has been reproduced re-produced at For Leo with startling fidelity. In -several scenes the stnr Is seen entering or leaving the doors of this picturesque old house of worship, wor-ship, and tho populous neighborhood with churchgoers, beggar hordes, and so ou, required he use of large numbers of extra people Not satis- fled with using the ordinary types "employed In "mob'.' scenes, made up for tho occasion, Director Chautard sent out a call for real 'Italians.'-" The studio lot has" been crowde'd ever since with picturesque figures, some In the very garm they wore as immigrants from tho sunny lands of their own country. Thoro is much valuable and expressive discourse In the Latin tongue which, of course, Mine, Cavalier understands perfectly but which might as well be Greok so far as some of the actors In tho picture pic-ture are concerned. It Is absolutely certain, however, that when "Tho Eternal Temptress" Is seen upon tho screen of tho Lyric Theater tonight It will mirror faithfully faith-fully tho picturesque old world cities with their densely crowded streets. Emlle Chautard Is a persistent seeker for "atmosphere" In pictures, because ho realizes that a largo part of tho charm and the convincing quality of a photoplay depends upon this elusive quality. |
