This was the twenty-eighth, m the Third muni-clpal muni-clpal waid, and this was carried through the "untiring efforts" of iJishop Walter J. Ileattio, who lives there and who was candidate for treasurer treas-urer on tho republican ticket. Tho total vole polled for mayor at the election was 21,711). This was a gain of approximately :i,ooo over the vote of two years ago. It was approximately approx-imately :ooo less than the presidential vole of last fall. The vote for Hurt, tho Socialist candidate for mayor, fell below 500, although the other candl- ; dates on that ticket ran a shade over ' mark. The Socialist vote would not have changed the result In any case except In the race for the city council In (Ire Fourth municipal ward. The Socialists had the power to eleqt both " A mci lean" candidates for the council In that ward. Mayor Morris a Runner. The high man on tho Democratic ticket was of course Mayor Morris. He has never yet failed to be thq high man on the democratic ticket. II lies was the high man on tho "American" ticket, running :I2 votes ahead of Thompson, who came next. Swcnson was tho low man. The returns show that the "Americans" "Ameri-cans" did less scratching and voted stralghtcr than either of the other parties. There was a difference of but 131) voles between the highest and lowest men on the ticket. There was a difference of UI4 between the highest and lowest on the Democratic ticket, and a difference of 888 between the highest and lowest on the republican ticket. The wide range on the demo-cartlc demo-cartlc ticket Is due to the exceptional personal popularity of Mayor Morris. The other four candidates on the ticket ran well together. Every democrat demo-crat on the city ticket carried the Third and Fourth wards; every "American" carried the First, Second and Fifth. |
