Henjamln Curtis who died at Pres-ton Pres-ton in the caily part of the week and who was brought heio for burial, was for somcjcaisa lesldcnt of this city, lie was bom in Alleganey County, New Yoik, Jan. 12, 1828, and grew up In the relgon made famons by tho ccntstransplilng there, in connection w 1th the bi Inglng forth of the Hook of Moimou and the consequent orlgcn ofMormonism. Mr. Curtis used to say that he didn't know anything about Joseph Smith and the plates he claimed claim-ed to recel e, but the subject w as often discussed in the nclghboihood where he lived, during his boyhood, and he had once visited the hill Cumorah out ofjcurioslty and he had seen evidences evi-dences that there had been a hole dug in the hill at the spot wheie Joseph Smith claimed the plates had been buried. Whether the hole' had been dug there by Smith or some one else lie could not say. In later j ears he mairied a sister of C. W. Caul and lemovcd to Giand Rapid-., Michigan, where they lesided for a number of vcais. They came to to Utah In 1884 and located In this City where they remained for six jcars, then removing to Preston where he has since resided. |
