Alger- non Sartorls of tho Tenth Infantry, who la stationed at Mnnlla, unless good und sufficient reasons for the tender nro furnished by tho officer. Lieut. Sartorls 1b a grandson of the lato Mrs. Julia Dent Grant, widow of Gen. U. S. Grant, who died last month. Upon tho dny after Mrs. Grant's death tho war dcpaitmcnt received a cablegram cable-gram from Lieut. Sartorls tendering his resignation. This action on tho part of tho young officer caused surprise sur-prise nt the department because it was understood that his ambition was to sorvo In tho army, nnd that ho was very well satisfied with his present position.
