Show Howell Gets Bills Through I Washington, June 27. Representative Representa-tive Howell's bill opening Up ono hundred hun-dred and seventy-three thousand acres of land in Utah to free homestead entry en-try will become a law at this session. Tills land Is embraced within the abandoned Fort Crittenden military reservation In Utah. The bill passed tho house some time ago, but when It reached the senato an amendment was tacked on for disposal ot lands in North Dakota and there being objection objec-tion to tho amendment, tho bill has been held up, since passing tho senate, the house conferees objecting to It.' Howell has been working industriously with the house conferees, and today, they agreed to the senate amendment, Cannon Favors Howell. .Speaker Cannon today extended to Representative Howell the unusual HH privilege ot allowing him to call up IJ and pass three scparato bills. Two IJ of these were Senator Smoot's bills, HR one creating tho Grand canyon gamo IJ reserve In the Arizona strip, an area of fl twenty by forty miles, and tho other, HJ the bill providing for exchange ot land IB between the War Department and Le- fl Grande Young whereby Fort Douglas IJ is to be enlarged by about four thous- IB and acres and Young Is to receive H forty-three acres near Salt Lake. The IB third bill Is that Introduced by Sena- H tor Sutherland granting to the Eplsco- IB pal church twelve acres for school and IB missionary purposes on the former HB Uintah reservation, IB All three bills have passed the Sen- fl ate and now go to tho President for HB signature.
