Show Preston Will Celebrate Fourth PRESTON, IDA., Juno 211, 11)00. The various committees are busy perfecting per-fecting arrangements for tho Fourth of July celebration. The following program has been gotten up for the forenoon: Firing ot guns at sunrise; parade at 10 sharp; master of ceremonies, Hon. George C. Parkinson; chaplain, Sol. II. Hale. Patriotic selection, band, prayer, chaplain; singing, "America," by congregation led by O. E. Johnson; reading ot Declaration of Independence, Independ-ence, A. C. Smith; music by band; "Star Spangled Banner", W. E. Mon-son, Mon-son, chorus by congregation; oration Judge Alfred Budge; duet, Mrs. Fcnn Meacham and Nclllo Thomas; comic recitation, Joseph McCann; reading of patriotic sentiments, W. K. Barton; music, "Columbia" band; benediction. In the afternoon there will bo horse races, and athletic sports ot various kinds besides a match ball game between be-tween Mlllvllle and Preston. Also a gamo between tho "fats and leans." The lcaus must be six feet tall while the facts must weigh two hundred pounds. In the evening thcro will be fire works on the public squaro and dances at Ilobb's hall and at the Academy. Tho controversy between the village board and tho Independent Telephone company has been settled by the board allowing tho telephone company to string its wires In the middle of the streets beside the poles already set by the High Creek Electric Light Co. Leroy, son of J. 0. Greaves, has been released to return home from his mission. mis-sion. He has been laboring In the Eastern States, most ot his time being be-ing spent in the city of Albany, New York. He Is expected home this next week. Miss Jennie Smith and W.K.Barton W.K.Bar-ton wcro married at Salt Lako on tho 20th. Mr. and Mrs. Barton will give a wedding reception at the home of tho bride's parents this evening. A. B. 0. Jensen has built a cement sidewalk In front ot his place of business busi-ness on State '.street. Several other merchants aro contemplating doing the same thing In the near future. E. G. Farmer was over from Clifton yesterday on political business. Miss Lonctta Johnson and Manuel Packer were married at Logan last Wednesday. Last week a girl was born to Dr. and Mrs. G. (J. Emery. Miss Bessie Cole, ot Logan, was at Preston this week visiting relatives. Leslie Spcn'ce, of the Rio Grand Western, was up from Salt Lake on a visit this week. Plans are being drawn for a new school building to be erected on tho Academy grounds this summer. Jabcs Harris left Tuesday for a mission mis-sion to tho Southern States. A dancing party will be given In tho Academy this evening. Haying Is in full blast. Owing to the great deal ot rainy weather and the prevalence of so much Juno grass the hay crop Is lighter than usual. Mrs. Anna Parkinson leaves Sunday for a short visit with friends in Provo and Salt Lake. Hon. J. A. Hcndrlckson, ot Logan, was In town on business this week. |
