Show APPEALS 10 COWARDICE. The Richmond Times has always been thoroughly southern. That means that It has always been an uncompromising uncompro-mising Democratic paper. But it Is evidently disgusted with the paramount para-mount issue of its party this year. It says: "Mr. Bryan has at least made this much plain. Anti-imperialism means for one thing that we are to surrender all rights that we have acquired in the Philippines and that we are to have absolutely nothing whatever to do with the government of those islands in the future. In view of the immense and unexpected sacrifices which the United States has made In acquiring the Philippines, Phil-ippines, it remains ro be seen how popular pop-ular Mr. Bryan's grand policy will be with the American people." After the election is over and Mr.. Bryan will be left with nothing but the fragments of an organization around him, it will be delicious to listen lis-ten to those fiery southern papers, such as the Richmond Times, the Atlanta At-lanta Constitution, the Courier-Journal and a score of others, and hear the chorus that they will awaken in denunciation denun-ciation of the emasculated policy which swept their party into the attitude of men who, for the sake of trying to wiu i an election, took for a slogan the dls- honoring of our flag, aud made appeals I to the cowardice anil the low prejudice 1 of our people.
