Show AN INSECT PEST.

Our citizens generally have no doubt observed the blighted foliage of many of the trees in this city. The cause of this is a small red insect which adheres to the under side of the leaf, and draws the vitality from it. A few mornings since, Brother Thomas Jones brought to this office some apple tree leaves and a magnifying glass. On the leaves could be seen a number of very minute red spots, barely visible to the naked eye. Under the magnifying glass this insect is seen to be a lively little red spider. Brother Jones, who is a gardener of wide experience, says that the only remedy he knows of is continued moisture. This is death to them. This agrees with the experience of President Preston, who lately swept them from some of his trees by means of a stream of water thrown from a hose.

It is asserted that Prof. Herman's Vermin Destroyer will destroy this pest. We think it worth while to try the experiment. The article is on sale at Ormsby's drug store. |
