Show FOUND DROWNED. From the Junction of Aug. 21st we learn the particulars of the finding of the corpse of a drowned man. On Friday afternoon last, a number of boys were near the bank of Ogden river at a point one mile east of the bridge, when one of them discovered a corpse floating in water 8 or 9 feet deep. One of the boys at once notified Sheriff Brown, who repaired to the spot immediately, took the body out of the water and conveyed it to the City Hall. The coroner was notified, an inquest was held and a verdict of accidentally drowned was rendered.

Upon the bank near where the body was discovered were found a pair of pants, a vest and a black duster, and underneath these a buckskin money protector, in which were ten pockets. On the edge of the bank was a suit of clean underclothing. The Sheriff took from the clothing of deceased, $90 in gold, $8.10 in silver and also a small foreign coin, silver; twelve foreign pieces fell from the vest while being handled. In the buckskin protector were five packages of greenbacks, marked $250, and one package marked $302; (there were also discovered thirty $20 gold pieces-$600). Besides there were a pocket knife, a silver watch, with key, and a trunk key. The Sheriff counted this money over twice in the hands of the boys, and wrote down the amounts on a piece of paper. Sheriff Brown brought out the body. With the clothing was also found a railroad ticket from San Francisco to Pittsburg, Pa, with the name, "W. Kuss" written upon it. On the following day Sheriff Brown went to the depot and obtained some baggage belonging to the deceased, from which still further evidence that his name was W. Kuss, was derived. The proper officers will make every effort to find his friends. The remains were buried in the strangers' cemetery in Ogden on Saturday last. |
