Show THE CROPS of Western Kansas have failed again, and it is said that twenty thousand people are in danger of starvation. It is claimed that the failure is due to the severe drouth [drought] of last year, which lasted all winter and far into the present summer. The chief suffering is among the new communities, where the people still live in their turf-built cabins, and who had barely enough means to purchase their lands, build their little houses and buy sufficient wheat and corn for seeding purposes. |
