Show An Ordinance in Relation to Dogs. <br><br> SEC. 1. Be it ordained by the City Council of Logan City, that no person shall keep a dog within the limits of said city, without having the same duly registered as hereafter provided, and obtaining a certificate of such registration. <br><br> SEC. 2. An entry, by the Recorder of said city, in a record book kept by him for that purpose, of the description of a dog, together with the name of its' owner or keeper and date of entry, shall constitute such registration. <br><br> SEC. 3. It shall be the duty of said Recorder to register any dog on application of the owner or keeper thereof, and issue to such owner or keeper a certificate of registration under the corporate seat; on payment by such owner or keeper to said Recorder of the sum of three dollars for the use and benefit of said city. Such certificate shall be numbered in the order of issue, and shall be in force for one year only from and after the date of the same; but may be renewed annually on payment of an annual sum of three dollars aforesaid. <br><br> SEC. 4. All dogs so registered shall wear a suitable collar, with "L.C." and the number of the certificate of registration engraved or stamped thereon, said collar to be furnished by the City Recorder at the expense of the owner or keeper of any dog so registered; and all dogs found running at large within the limits of the city, not so registered and collared shall be liable to be killed by any person. <br><br> SEC. 5. Any bitch found running at large in said city while in heat, whether registered or not, shall be liable to be killed by any person, and the owner or keeper of the same shall be liable to a fine in any sum not exceeding ten dollars for each offense and the cost of prosecution. <br><br> SEC. 6. If the owner or keeper of any dog shall suffer or permit the same to enter or be in any place of worship in said city during public worship therein, he shall be liable to a fine in any sum not exceeding five dollars and cost of prosecution. <br><br> SEC. 7. If the owner or keeper of any fierce, dangerous or mischievous dog shall permit or suffer the same to go at large within the limits of said city, whether registered or not, he shall be liable to a fine for the first offense not exceeding five dollars and cost; for the second offense not exceeding ten dollars and cost; and on the third conviction for such offense, in any sum not exceeding fifteen dollars and cost; and in each case shall be liable to pay all damages caused by said dog, and the Mayor or Alderman shall issue an order to the City Marshal or Chief of Police or any of their deputies requiring him to immediately cause such dog to be killed. <br><br> SEC. 8. Any person who shall kill, or cause to be killed, any dog registered and collared pursuant to this ordinance, except as herein provided, or in self-defense, when engaged in any lawful avocation, without the consent of the owner or keeper thereof, or who shall deprive any registered dog of its collar, or put a collar as herein provided on any dog not so registered, or suffer a collar to remain on any dog after the expiration of the certificate of registration, and without such certificate being renewed? as hereinbefore provided, shall be liable to a fine in any sum not exceeding twenty-five dollars. <br><br> SEC. 9. The Mayor of said city is hereby authorized to issue this proclamation forbidding the running at large of any and all dogs in said city, at any time [unreadable line] is in danger; or when there are mad or rabid dogs in or near said city, unless such dogs be securely muzzled with a wire muzzle, fasted on with a chain or leather straps; and all dogs found running at large in said city during time specified in said proclamation, unless muzzled as heretofore provided, shall be liable to be killed by any person. <br><br> SEC. 10. The word "Dog" wherever used in this ordinance without qualification, shall apply to female as well as male dogs. <br><br> Sec. 11. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance, shall, where penalties are not herein otherwise provided, be liable to a fine of not less than three nor more than twenty-five dollars and costs for each offense. |
