Show THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION OF GOVERNOR MURRAY. The President of the United States has recommended that all people observe Thursday, the 24th day of November, as a day of National Thanksgiving and prayer. It is ???? and proper that we should observe this ancient custom, which was honored by the fathers who gave us the victory of Yorktown, to celebrate The assassination of our late president ????? to the lips of our past be the bitter cup of affliction, but we have to thank God that the [next two sentences unreadable]. We have been spared from scourge? and pestilence; and Peace joins hands with Prosperity. Now, Therefore, for these and other reasons, I, Eli H. Murray, Governor of the Territory of Utah, do hereby designate and set apart Thursday, November 24, 1881, as a day of thanksgiving and prayer; and recommend the suspension of business on that day, and that our people meet in their respective places of worship for prayer and thanks to the "Giver of every good and perfect gift."
