Show Acknowledgments. The following letter from Mr. Allan was written while he was en route from Ogden to Omaha, and no date was affixed: EDITOR LEADER-, After the many favors received on this my first visit to the beautiful town of Logan, looking for Utah fruit, to be exhibited by the Union Pacific Railroad Company at the Nebraska state fair, I wish to make an acknowledgment. Everywhere I met a cordial reception, and obtained a generous supply of the fine samples of fruit of which you will hear again after next week. I am indebted to Hon. [Honorable] Moses Thatcher, Pres.[President] Preston and Mr. Cardon of the Cache Valley House, for kind courtesies and introductions, and to Mr. Thomas Jones, especially, for spending a day showing me around to all the orchards we had time to visit. Mr. Jacobs, nurseryman, besides a donation most excellent and peculiar, furnished some valuable information regard to western fruit growing. I desire to extend my acknowledgments to the following, who opened their orchards for free selections: Mr. John Archibald, Mr. Wm. [William] Goodwin, Mrs. Benson; Dr. Norcross, and Mr. Parry; also to Mr. Bergman and others, of whose generous offers time prevented my acceptance. I also wish to acknowledge the receipt from Thatcher & Sons of extra fine samples of spring wheat and their unsurpassed flour; also from Mr. Farrell some of his fall "Imperial" wheat, grown to my surprise, without irrigation. I much regretted that I could not remain longer, in what I think the most beautiful town of the west. J.P. Allan |
